A Case of Practice What You
Preach Demonstrated

JF you were to run an advertisement a mile long in every
city in the country for just one day and then quit, a tem
porary sensation would be all that you would get out of it.

^UCCESSFUL. advertising is nothing more than a study of
human nature interlocked with common sense. When
you read this ad. an acquaintance is immediately formed,
but if we were not to meet you again for a long time you
would probably forget us.

JT is true a Directory is not published every week or every
month, but our mailing lists, so classified to meet the
individual requirements of everyone, are always ready.
Realize too, that it is direct circulation you pay for
picked prospects. Can t you see where a catalogue, circular,
or letter sent out to these prospects of yours regularly
would form that acquaintance into a friend? What are you
selling and who do you want to reach ?

RECOMMENDATION We do it ourselves and it works
great.

INTRODUCTORY

The Thirty -ninth edition of Ottawa City Directory is submitted with our
assurance that it will compare favorably in point of completeness and accuracy
with previous editions.

Among the suburbs it will be noticed that we have included Ridgmont
which lies south of Billing s Bridge and connected with the City by an hourly
motor bus line, and after the classified portion of Hull Directory we have in
cluded the Aylmer Road District; also the village of Gatineau Point, both of
which are important suburbs of that city.

POPULATION :

The Federal Census of last spring gave Ottawa a population of only 86,340
while the directory estimate was 90,799. We explained in our Introductory
last year that although we did not at the time know the Census figures we be
lieved our estimate was a very close one. This has been proved by the Civic
Assessment figures of last October, which gave the City proper a population of
90,520-4,180 greater than the Federal figures and only 299 less than ours.
The present volume contains 35,215 individual names by actual count, exclusive
of firms, corporations, etc. Using our ordinary multiple of 2f to represent
married women and children under directory age, we have an indicated

POPULATION OF 97,391

for the City of Ottawa at the end of May 1912.

We would again call attention to the pamphlets which are published by
the Publicity department of the City Corporation and distributed gratis. These
contain concrete facts in regard to the city which show it to be not merely
a residential one, but one which affords exceptional facilities for business

f^ locations.

Q^ We thank our patrons for their continued support.
