WHAT MOVES US

What moves us...

The seasons come and go. With each new season
comes a different form of beauty and togetherness. Autumn
brings multi-colored leaves to the vast numbers of trees.
Our athletes draw crowds to the fields and the sound of the
marching band keeps spirits high. Winter arrives and all is
white. We go sledding or snow boarding at North Hill and
then get a hot cup of coffee. Spring brings flowers and the
air warms us. The Seniors have one last night out and the
Juniors host the Prom. Summer begins and we can't wait to
hit the beach. A cool breeze rolls in across the water as the
waves crash on the shore. The ideal date is an evening stroll
across the sand while watching the stars shoot across the
cloudless sky.

What moves us...

All of these seasons move me. Each one has its own
special virtue. The thing that moves me the most is that,
after all of these years, we are still together, enjoying the
beauty of our town and of our friendship. As you look
through this book and read the captions, anecdotes, and
poems, ask yourself what it is that moves you. These
memories are priceless! Don't ever forget how wonderful
and fulfilling our time together has been. Each and every
one of you has moved and inspired me! I truly hope that this
book will move and inspire you!

-Tim Meehan

What Moves the
Class of '97...

Many things have moved the Class of 1997—
From blue hair to shaved heads,
From punk to preppy,
From thrift shops to Hilfiger,
From jacked-up Jeeps to run-down heaps,
From Student Chef to Prob. & Stat.,
From chicken parm to salad bar,
From soccer to skateboarding,
From L.L. Cool J to the Dead,
From Bickford's to the beach,
We've all been moved by different things.
We are a diverse class with many interests,
And this is what has made us special.

— Conor Dunleavy

Looking back on high school I learned a
lot in school and life. Spending good
times and dealing with hard times, I
realize that I never would have made it
without my friends. They were always
there for me, treating me great and
respecting me for who I was. From my
friends I developed a sense of determi-
nation and individualism. Never be
afraid to dream, anything is possible if
you put your mind to it. Never be afraid
to be yourself. Stand up for what you
believe in. The power of the waterfall
begins with a single drop.

Ah senior year! Well it has taken my many hard
years of school to reach this final, coveted year.
I would like to thank all of my teachers, advisors,
and most of all my friends for supporting me
throughout the years. I will never forget them as
long as I live. Finally I would like to acknowledge
my family for their love and support Without
them I could never have reached the goals that I
have. Mom, Dad Sara, thanks for all you have
done for me. I love you all College is only a few
months down the read from now and I know I'll
make new friends there, but without people like
CS and GD (who make everyone laugh) I don't
know if I could have survived high school I'm

It is curious to think that the sky is the same
for everybody, and that the people under
the sky are also very much alike - every-
where, all over the world hundreds or thou-
sands of millions of people, people ignorant
of one another's existence, held apart by
walls of hatred and lies - people who have
never learned to think but are storing up in
their hearts and bellies and muscles the

then into the world to get employed,
and watch the Celtics be destroyed,
and have children and be annoyed!

But we'll remember dis and dat
December 23, what was that?
the Thanksgiving game - we were door mats,
and the pep rally, which was mad phat!

So be polite, say "Yes ma'am,"
pay your taxes to Uncle Sam,
don't see movies like Space Jam,
and always eat green eggs and ham!

This is a new year for all of us;

seniors. Our class will be

the last class of the century.
We are the class of 1999.

Every day life's experiences give

A very long clown joke. Ask me to
tell it sometime!

The talking sausage joke!

Two men were painting a big white
church but were running out of
paint. They decided to add water
to what they had left. As they began
to paint the back of the church, a
loud voice was heard to say,
"Repaint and thin no more."

Too many to mention!

I never remember them — I do

"The 1 996 field hockey team had an exceptional seasoa
When we started this year, expectations were slightly
low after having lost 12 seniors to graduation. We set
out to prove all those who dared to doubt wrong but
first we had to prove something to ourselves. We
turned around our losing record with a 1-1 tie against
league powerhouse Dennis- Yarmouth...

Senior Captains Jen Arthur, Louisa Smith, and Meghan Hern

with Coach Saggese
...and from that moment oa as a team we were unstoppable. We advanced into the state
tournament with a winning record and beat Bridgewater-Raynham 1-0, to advance to the
second round There we lost to the number one seeded Holliston In the 1996 season we
accomplished more than many people thought possible, and in doing so upheld the winning
tradition in field hockey that has persisted over the last two decades."

The fact that business plays a vital role in the
moral, social, and economic condition of
today's society is often overlooked or simply
taken for granted. Business, however, is the
very engine that moves and motivates us along
the proverbial highway of life. Business holds
together the fabric of the world in which we live.

Whether it be providing our students with jobs,
or generously sponsoring our school's year-
book, local businesses have always been there to
support us. The Class of '97 would like to ex-
press our thanks and appreciation for their gen-
erous support.

We would also like to thank our parents for their
guidance and support as we have moved
through out high school years. We truly appre-
ciate your helping hand.

It has taken all kinds of people to help produce
this book which has captured on its pages so my
fond memories. We hope you will take time to
stop, look, and listen to the story that this book
has to tell!

This bridge will only take you halfway there

So come and walk awhile with me and share

But this bridge will only take you halfway there—

GRADUATION

T

"...In the end, it is not the quality of our memories
which will count - it is what we do with them that is
important. ..use your experiences here to create a
better world for yourself and others - then you have
succeeded at high school."

James Ceme

"Question Authority... those two words captured for
me the spirit of the DJSHS Class of 1996.. The
Question Authority spirit that characterizes you is a
thoughtful and intelligent one."

Wayne Ogden

"Taking yourself too seriously is very
dangerous. ..Keep your priorities straight... Make good
decisions. ..Be true to yourself.. .And, most impor-
tantly, never let anyone else tell you what to do."

Eric Thomas

"...And I look at the blossoms in their new home,
and I hope someone cares and that someone
sees what it was I was trying to do, to give, to say,
to be."

Sarah Albani

"...in graduating we do lose some of the comfort
offered by our small community, but what we gain
is far greater. . .we gain the opportunity to discover
more about ourselves, to look within and recog-
nize that each of us has limitless gualities, unre-
alized so far. As we move on we must not only
learn to be more open to others, but also to
ourselves."

Erin Killory

"I have faith that wherever we make a place for
ourselves, and whatever boundaries seem to
hold us there, that we will be listening for such a
flute."

Nicole Hendricken

What I would pray for you today, if I were to pray, is the courage to stand up to your
friends. That you would be able to hear the quiet voice from deep within you that
speaks of respect for the sacredness of this world, of the sacredness of every
person, of the sacredness of your own body and soul, that speaks to you of integrity
and faithfulness, and for you to be able to speak and act from that place within you
when your friends are not listening to it.

Robert R Walsh

BACCALAUREATE

"The true measure of our success,
as parents, families, educators and
community is how well we have
prepared you to fulfill your poten-
tial, to become compassionate and
moral members of society."

Dr. Eileen Williams

WHERE HAVE ALL THE YEARS GONE ?

BEING THE LINE-LEADER, GOING OUT FOR RECESS, AND FIGHTING FOR THE BACK

SEAT OF THE BUS,

THESE ARE SOME OF THE FONDEST MEMORIES FROM GRADE SCHOOL FOR

MOST OF US.

WE SPENT EVERY DAY FOR SIX LONG YEARS AT ALDEN OR CHANDLER NOT

KNOWING EACH OTHER,
UNTIL WE ENTERED THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND ALL CAME TOGETHER.
IN GRADE SIX WE CONSTRUCTED A BOOK ABOUT DUXBURY, AND WERE

IDENTIFIED AS DOWN UNDER OR TOP GUN.
IN SEVENTH GRADE WE BUILT A FAMILY NICHE, LEARNED ABOUT THE
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM, AND HAD AN ECOLOGY DAY
THAT WE SPENT IN THE BEACH SUN.
THEN FOLLOWED GRADE EIGHT, AIDS DAY AT CAMP WING, AND THE SEMI FORMAL

WHERE WE HAD SO MUCH FUN.
WE WERE THE CLASS THAT CLOSED THE DOORS, THE CLASS OF '92.
WE WERE THE LAST TO LEAVE D.I.S., THE FIRST TO BE PROMOTED TO THE

HIGH SCHOOL TOO.
THE FOLLOWING AUTUMN WE ENTERED THE HIGH SCHOOL AS FRESHMEN,
THE YOUNGEST GRADE OUT OF FOUR.
ONE YEAR LATER WE WERE SOPHOMORES, THE YOUNGEST NO MORE.
AS WE TRIED TO ADJUST TO THE NEW ATMOSPHERE AND WERE
INTRODUCED TO EACH NEW THING, WE HOPED TO FIT IN
AT PEP RALLIES, AT POWDER PUFF, AND AT CHOOSING HOMECOMING QUEEN

AND KING.

IN OUR JUNIOR YEAR WE GOT TO ATTEND OUR FIRST PROM WHERE THEY PLAYED

"FAITHFULLY" AS OUR SONG.
NOW WE ARE SENIORS. ..GRADUATING...MOVING ON...
OUR SCHOOL DAYS ARE OVER...
WHERE HAVE ALL THE YEARS GONE?
