MOVING IN

Now that you're
out of the house, do
you know what your
parents did with
your room? Did
they turn it into a
guest room? Did
your younger sister
or brother turn if
into a play room?

Well, don't fret.
Brevard College
always has a room
waiting for you.
Think of Brevard
College as your new
home and everyone
on your hall is your

FAR SIDE OF THE
OCEAN

During each spring semester and every summer, a
group of up to 7 students travel to far-off Austria to
spend time learning about Austrian culture, great art-
ists, and composers. This program is several years old
and thriving. Students experience cultural dances, mu-
sic, activities, and even some schooling as is present in
Austrian society. It is the chance of a lifetime for many
and the hope of the future for others.

MAKING FRIENDS

At some time in our
lives, we will all have to
interact with people that
we do not know well.
Upon entering college,
students are exposed to
a wide range of different
attitudes and
personalities. Being
around so many people
who are not exactly
alike is a good way for
students to broaden
their horizons. By

getting to know one
another, students are
constantly in a learning
process. Perceptions of
students grow and
change by being
involved with students of
other cultures, races
and religious
backgrounds. At
Brevard, it's easy to mix
and mingle with others.
Friendships build that
last a lifetime.

Jessie wonders if playing twister
in McBride's class will help him
bond with fellow students.

JayCee, John Dylan, and Lou
take advantage of the
extracurricular activities to
socialize.

THE ACTIVE SIDE

When it comes to
activities, Brevard does
its share in mixing a
variety of events to peal<
students' interest. No
matter if one wants to
dance the night away or
climb to the highest
point in the scenic
mountains, Brevard can
satisfy anyone's taste
buds. For the people
who lil<e to press their
lucl<, Casino Night was

for them. And who can
forget the hiker's empire
or more commonly
known as party central,
the forest. And for those
people who enjoy
poetry, the student
poetry reading gave
them a chance to
express their creativity.

GOING FAR OUT

Being a freshman at college Is not the easiest thing.
\l Brevard, many people plan long and hard to prepare
activities for the new freshmen. At the beginning of
each year, BC has Derby Day. This crazy day gives
new freshmen and sophomores opportunities to get to
know one another and build friendships.

Homecoming

The International students Maria, Naoko, Midori, and Al all enjoy Homecoming, for they can all show
off their beautiful clothes from home.

BC Alumni come together to share yet another drink on campus at Homecoming.

HOMECOMING

As we all go our separate
ways, there Is one thing we
can and do always count
on: Homecoming. A time
for friendships renewed, a
time to remember just what
fun we had as students at
Brevard College. For those
of us who are still here, it is
a way to know that we can
always return. There were
alumni who attended
Homecoming '93 from
when this institution had a
different name. Weaver
College. As students come
and go. it is nice to know
that we have a common
gathering place no matter
how much time goes by.
Homecoming represents a
time for everyone to share
a common bridge, that
bridge we all crossed when
we attended Brevard Col-
lege.

There is an even more
special aspect to the
Homecoming experience.
The crowning of the King
and Queen. At Brevard, we
make it extra-special and
ever more exciting by add-
ing a Prince and Princess
as well. All the students
vote, and the winners are
crowned at the big soccer
game. This weekend is well
anticipated and never a let
down. We enjoy a bonfire
and other activities. This
year we added something
new to the agenda: the pa-
rade. There were old-timey
cars and trucks, children of
all ages and happiness
floated in the air. Of course,
we shouldn't forget the
dance that always turns out
to be of interest.

So don't forget that even
though this may be your
year to step off the bridge
that Brevard offers, you
can always return and re-
member your wonderful
times at BC!

As we ail know, relaxing is a major dilemma! However, we students at BC sure have gotten it down to something of an art form. The
Student Union is a popular place as the seasons turn colder. At the rate students use the couches and chairs, the college will have to
replace the furniture annually, (ha!) The quad in between Jones Dorm and Beam was a major point of congregation during the warmer
times. It IS necessary in life to find time for yourself; we certainly have learned that much here in our first two years of college.

Many students at BC
come from other

the American students

Either way we all have

Americans live. Min Kim,

The Chiaroscuro publication is a cherished tradition at Brevard Col-
lege. This publication is dedicated to fine art, photography, short sto-
ries and poetry. Due to the acknowledgements of students' talents and
potential that Chiaroscuro displays, other interest in the Fine Arts have
been realized. For example, "Poets and Writers at Brevard" is a re-
cently established effort at having outside writers come share their
minds and talents with interested students and faculty. Another off-
spring ot the Chiaroscuro is students gathering in the cafe for poetry
readings. Students sometimes read original works, or they share works
that they enjoy or appreciate and want to share. Makisha Gary enjoys
reading one of her own creations at one of the poetry readings during

THE WILD SIDE

Phil, looks as though you had a wild night at
the Homecoming Dance in the fall!!

Tush and LaMonica dance like wild as the
night goes on at the Homecoming Dance.

Ai and Midori, while a world away from home,
got to know new and past Brevard College
students at the Homecoming Dance.

up, but your feet on the ground?"

Joy, Rebecca, and Dawn are always up to
having a good time.

Clyde Carter is moving up in the world by
