] A Remedy for the Stcne or Gravel.

TAKE one ounce of thefa,lt of tirrar, and dillolveii
in a pint of boiling rain water ; then pour it or
three ounces of iime j take about 30 drops of this infu-
fion in a pint of broth made of the Icancft of vea], hav-
ing firil bsen well fkimmed of every particle of fat. —
The broth muft be fipped by degrees fo as to be an hour
in tiJting the pint j three pints muft be taken in a day,
abftaining from all acid?, fa!t or fak meat, or fat of any
kind, or vegetables, except turnips, potatoes & onions.
The patient may cat beef, mutton, weal, lamb, chickens,
ducks, and rabbits, but without any fauee except their
own gravy j their drink water, with a little rum or
brandy in it j and to ufe fuch exercife as can be taken

i' without pain } and if they cxpedl any benefit from, the
medicine they muft perfevere in the ufe of it, even the'
thjy find no amendment for a (ew v/eeks,
I The above remedy is fimilar to that of Mrs. Stpvens's,
(for the difclofing of which (he received £-S°oo from
Farliaraent) alfo of Dr. Chittick's celebrated noftrum j
they biing nothing moic than a weak veal broth medi~

require, of foap lye, or fome fubftance of- which a fixt
alkalir.e fait is the bafis, not fpccifically different from

foap lye.- Such are the virtues of thefe medicines,

that the urine of thofe who hrve taken them, particu-
larly (he foap lye, in a few weeks becomes a menftruum
in which ftonss, which come from the bladder, ar? folu-
ble, as has been often proved by experiment.

A fpeedy Cure for a fpraioed Foot or Ancle.

FIRST, let it be fomented with vinegar, a little
warm, for four or five minutes at a time once
every four hours j this will render the clicuiation of the
fluids, in the parts af?e£led, more eafy, and either prevent
I its fwelling, or promote its fubfiding.
I Second, let the perfon fland three or four minutes at
a time on both his feet in their natural pofture, and
fcmetimes move the drained foot ; a-^.d fo met imes, when
fittiug wifh his foot on a low ftool, let him move it
this way and that as he can bear it j this will contribute
much to contrad the over-ftretched velTsls, and to re-
cover a  due  cifcalatjion  of  thgir  fluids  through  them.        }  ;

Third, let a gcnlk dry friftinn with a warm hand be
fometime* uffC to the parts affeded, which will conduce'
hiHch to the fame ends.

Two hv -irs ai:er every application of the vinegar, let
the parts aiFe^ed be juft wetted with reClified fpiiiCis of
wine, and then gently rubbed.

By theic means [.eifons have recovered from the ef-
feiSls of very violent fprains in a few c^ays, when others
have oeen weeks in covering, where d)ffc. -nt ways of
