Meddelsex Co Mr Samuel Parchust one of ye Con-
stabels of watertown in sd county of meddlesex greet-
ing
Whereas ye great and general court or assembly of
this his majestes provence of Massachusets Bay in New
england at that sesion held at Boston the 26 day of No-
vember 1720 upon ye Report of Isaac vrinslow esquire
in the name of ye Commett by said Court appointed to
consider the most proper bound line between ye east
and west precints in said town the which Report on de-
cember 1720 was read and axepted and ordered by Said
Court that Samuel thaxter Esquir be desired to Run
the sd devisional line according to ye Report who per-
suant to sd order did Run sd deviding line between the
sd too precincts as foUoweth. Beginning at Charles River
and Runs on a North Course fourty nine degrees east in
Runing sd line passing on the east side of Joshua Childs
house at five Rods distance and on the wast side of
thomas straights house at five Rods distanc and so on
a straight line untill it intersects watertown north
bounds in which line thear is a white oak marked about
20 Rods distant from Charles River and several heaps
of stones in sd line all which apeare to me of Record.
And whare as Mester Jonathan Sanderson & Jonathan

holders living on ye west side of said deviding line in
sd watertown have this day writing under thear hands
signified thear desires to be in a way at duty & com-
plyence with which the sd order and Result of the great
and general (court?) and in order thear unto have
aplyed unto me the subscriber one of his majestes Just-
ices of the peace for sd County for A warent for Calling
a precinct meeting of such freeholders and other Inhab-
itanc qualefied as the law directs living in sd west pre-
cinct in watertown first to chuse a precinct clerk
2 To Chuse a Trasurer or Recever to Receve such
part of the Rates as Doth or may belong to the sd west-
erly precinct to pay for the careying on preaching there

at ye lest fourteen days warning and notice to each and
every of the freeholders and other inhabitanc at Wa-
tertown living on the west side of the deviding line be-
fore mentioned to ye utmost western southern and
northen Bounds who are qualefied according to law to
vote in ye afairs of sd west precinct to meett at the dwel-
ing house of deacon Jonathan Sanders in sd weste pre-
cinct in watertown on munday the 30th day of January
currant at one of the clock in the afternoon on sd day
1 first in order to Chuse some meet parson to sarve
as clerk for said weste precinct

part agreeing shall have full power to call the precinct

and it is further agreed upon that ye method of calling
precinct meetings shall be for the commett or the grater
part of them to give an order in writing under thear
hands unto clerk seting forth the time and place and
besness of said meeting to be transacted and thear unto
the clerk shall give out an order or orders in writing
directing one or more of sd commeett to warn or notefie
such part of sd precinct as they shall be directed too in
sd order and such and such orders being deuly attand-
ed and Return made to the clerk shall be accounted suf-
ficient warning provided all wayes such warning or no-
tes be given at the least four dayes before the time of

Reate that properly belongs to the precinct to suport
the preching the word of god among us that is or may
be Asigned to ye precinct Traserur or Eecever for the
ends afor sd that such menisters or menisters as the de-
cons shall agree withall to preach the gospel that the
deacons making Report of thear doings of what smn or
sums is agreed for the ends that it shall be in the power
of the preasent precinct commett that are to call pre-
cinct meetings or thear sucksasors in sd office or the
grater part of them to order the precinct clarke or his
sucksesor in sd office to give out order or orders to pay
such sum or soums of money as is agreed for such order
or orders being directed to the precinct Trasurer or Ee-
cever to pay such sum or sumes as is for the ends afore
sd which payment to be mad out of the Eighty four
pounds as is afore sd and it is further agreed upon that
the precinct Traserur or Eecever shall mak up his ac-

house of Thomas Harrington in sd Precinct on the four-
teen day of Aprill currant at two of The Clock in the af-
ternoon.
1 To hear the Return of the committee formerly
Chose by Said Precinct to treat whith Those who wear
the Builders of the new or westerly meeting house in
said town in order to the Removing of it
2 In case the a forsd meeting house cannot be ob-
tained then to know the minds of the Precinct what
measures thay will tak in order to the errecting of a
meeting house on or as neare the Place as may be that
was Dertermined by the Honorable Committee of the
grat and General Court in their sessions in November
last past
3 To See whether the Precinct will chose a commit-
tee to manage that affaire and business that so a meet-
ing house may be erected seasonably Persuant to the Re-
solve of the General Court.

as the Town of watertown at a Genneral Town meet-
ing the 15th Day of May Last past Granted a Rate of
two Imndred Pounds for the Finishing of the two meet-
ing Hones that is to say tliat which is Alredy seet
np in tlie westerly Precinct and that which is Pro-
posed and advised to be seet up in the Easterly Precinct
on School house Hill and whare as the Selectmen of sd
town on the 5th of November Last past ordered that the
town Tresurer Do give order to George Harrington on
of the Present Constabls of watertown to pay into the

the westely Precinct in said town the sum of Eighty six
Pounds seventeen shilings and four pence which is said

At a meetiii.u; oH the Comittee of the west Precinct in
watertown on november the 29 1737 ordered at sd meet-
in.i:: that the Clerk ^ve an order to Constable fisk to warn
a Precinct meeting to be on the 8 day of december next
att one of the clock in the after noon att the meeting hous
in sd Precinct to hear the Proposals of Sundry of the In-
habitants of water town

with to warn all the freehonlders and other Inhabitants
of the west Precinct in water Town who are (jualilicd ac-
cording to law to vote in Precinct alTairs to meet att the
meeting house in the afore sd Precinct on thusday the
(8th) day of desember next att one of the Clock in the
aftemoone to heare the Proposals of Sundr}' of the In-
habitants of water Town It is Proposed and agreed by us
the Inhabitants of the Town of watertown that the fol-
lowing articles be recommended to our respective Pre-
cincts for their Consideration and acceptance

hear by Kequired forthwith to warn all the freehoulders
and other inhabitants of the west Precinct in water town
who are qualified according to Law to vote in Precinct
affairs to meet att the meeting- house in the afore sd Pre-
cinct on thusday the (8) day of december next att one of
the Clock in the after noone for the ends following (viz
where as unhappy Differrances hath arisen in water
Town for the Peacible Putting an end there to the divid-
ing of the Town in Two Townshijjs is thought will be
very condusive To know the mind of the Precinct
wheather thay are willing the town Should be divided
into Two Townships on the following Conditions & Pro-
posals namely That the Said Town be divided in Two
Townships and the dividing line to be as the Precinct
line now is that the great bridge over Charles river in sd
Town be maintained by each Town in Proportion as thay
shall be set in the Provence Tax that the Pore who are
att Present maintained by the Town be maintained by
each Town in proportion to their Provence Tax and if
any Persons gone out of Town shall be Eeturned to water
Town and become a Charge that thay be maintained by
each Town in like proportion as afore sd that the Town
Stock of arms & ammunition be divided in equal Pro-
portion be Tween each Town That water Towns Part of
the Two thousand acres of land granted by the general
Cort to them and to weston be diveded in equal halves as
to quantity & quality between the Two Towns when di-
vided That the Intrest of water Towns Part of the Sixty
Thousand Pounds Loan be divided to each Town in pro-
portion to their Provence Tax that the Books & Records
of the Town of water Town be dilivered up to a Commit-
tee of the East Town who may Be chosen & apointed to
Receive the Same that the debts of the Town be Paid by
each Town in Proportion to the Provence Tax that if any
mony upon ballanceing the Treasurers acounts Remain in
the Tresury it be divided between the Two Towns in like

Town from masters Brook to Cambrid^a' Line ])e stated
and Settled as to tlu-ir Corse and witli as the Cort of gen-
eral sessions of the Peace agreeble to the Report that
may he made l)y tlieir Commitee for that Pnn^se aj)-
pointed shall be Pleased to order »5c if any lands now lyinj,'
as ways or reputed as Such Shall not be included in the
ways when stated as aforesaid the Same shall be to &
for the Sole use and benefit c^- att the disposnl of the Town
whare in the Same shall by Provided how ever that the
Sail of any of the lands afore sd that have bane dispos(»d
of by the Towns Committee included in the ways when
stated as afore said Shall remain good & valid to the Pos-
sesors who have Purehesed the same also that each Town
shall have the Benefit of the Proceds of the saile of Such
of the Lands afore sd as lies with in the Same that if the
Said ways when Stated as aforesaid shall inClude any
land belonirinjr to any Particuler Person the owner of
vSuch land Shall have meet Recompence made him by the
Town where in the Same lies hear of fails not and make
Return of this warrant with your doings their on to the
Precinct clerk att Least one hour before sd time of meet-
ing

habitance of the west Precinct in water Town who are
(jualified acording to Law to vote in town affairs To

At a meeting of the freeholders and Inhabitants of
the west Precinct in water Town Regnlerly Convened on
the Eight day of December A: D. 1737 Voted & Chosen
deac: william Brown moderator
Whare as an unhappy Controversy has arison & for
Some Time Subsisted among the Inhabitance of sd Town
Respecting the Publick & Precinct ways that are in the
Town to the peaciable desition where of it is thought de-
viding of the Town of water Town into Too Townships
may be very Condusive
In order theirfore to obtain So valuable a Blesing as
Peace among us it was Put to vote to know the mind of
the Precinct whether thay would Petition the great and
general Court of this Provence that thay would Confirm
them a distinct and Sepperate township by them Selves
on the following Conditions and Provisor: viz: That the
deviding Line as all R«dy Settled between the Two Pre-
cincts be the dividing Line of the Towns that all Such
Charges as have arisen or may arise on account of the
great bridge over Charls River in water Town or on ac-
count of any Poor persons who are att present Supported
by the Town or have gon out of watertown & Should be
Returned there to againe and becom a charge be defray-
ed by each town according to their Proportion from time
to time in the Provence Tax That the debts of the Town
be Payed by each of the Towns in Such proportion as
thay now pay to the publick tax and the surplus money
if any Such Remains in the Treasury be in like Proportion
devided to the Respective Towns that the yearly Intrest
arising from watertowns Part of the Sixty Thousand
Pound Loan be distributed to each Town according to
there Respective Proportion from time to time in the
Provence Tax That watertowns Part of the two thous-
and acres of land Granted them by the general Court to
gether with the town of weston be divided be tween the

mittee which shall not be Included in the ways when
Stated as afore sd Shall remain good and valid to the
Purchasers of the Same also that Each Town shall have
the benefit of the Proceds of the Saile of Such of the
Lands ])efore mentioned as ly with in the Same and that
if the ways Stated as afore said Shall Include any lands
belonging to any Particular person the owner of Such
Land Shall luive meet Kecom]>ence made him by the
Town where in the Same lyes and the vote Pased in the
affirmative Voted and Chose mesurs deac william Brown
mr Daniel Benjamin and mr Samuel I^ivennore to be a
Committee to petetion the Great and General Court as
afore said
