image impressed on
the senses or the mind.
4 strong effect.
School experiences create lifetime impres-
sions upon students, but the students of Jona-
than Dayton strive to leave their imprint upon
their school, their community, and the world.
With their spirit, enthusiasm, and interest,
Dayton students enter the school each day
and work hard to achieve the goals they have
set for themselves. Each student has contrib-
uted something different to their peers, their
towns, and to society, leaving behind a lasting
impact and moving forward into new experi-
ences and aspirations.

Our impression of senior life at Dayton? Our senior year has been
stressful, but it has been filled with great times that will be among the
most memorable in our lives. Being seniors at Jonathan Dayton has given
us the chance to become more involved, and this year has proved to be
both enjoyable and interesting. Some of the friendships that we have
made over the years have become even stronger over this past year, and a
permanent bond with our teachers has been created. Yes, senior life at
Dayton has been really amazing. We are sad to be leaving, but we know
that the memories, friendships, and learning experiences will stay with us
forever.

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer youself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own-You know what you
know
You are the one who'll decide where to go
Out there things can happen
and frequently do
to people as brainy and footsy as you.
And when things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along.
You'll start happening too.

SENIOR IMPRESSIONS
l/hat was your impression of the result of the 1992
evidential Election?
n Joglekar- The election of Bill Clinton was
jmething that I would have rather not seen!
What was your impression of the decision to close
David Brearley High School?
Cathy Venes- I think that a school needed to be
closed, but at the same time I think it is unfortunate
that anyone should lose their home town high
school.
What are your greatest memories of your four years
at Jonathan Dayton?
Jeff Lippman- My greatest memories of my years at
Dayton are my participation on Cross-Country and
Tennis teams, and also my involvement with the
Dayton Journal. I also have fond memories of all the
great people I have been associated with over the
four years that I have been at Dayton.
hat will you remember most about your Senior
par at Dayton?

bm my senior year is the class meeting we ahd
discuss the drunk driving problem in our school,
r the first time the seniors acted as a real Senior
Its, a group that really cared and was no longer
) individual students.
What are your impressions of your athletic in-
volvement at Dayton?
Sharod Wright- My athletic involvement at Day-
ton was very enjoyable and helpful to me. My
coaches were inspirational and taught me things
about athletics as well as life in general that I
could not learn in a totally academic surround-
ing.

CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION
The administrators of the Union County
Regional High School District #1 maintain
offices, along with the Board of Education,
on the second floor of the Dayton building.
Both the Board and the administrators are
responsible for the decision-making that
enables the Regional District to function.
The 1992-1993 school year was an especially
difficult one for these decision-makers be-
cause economics forced them to recom-
mend the closing of one of the Regional
schools - David Brearley Regional High

and VICE PRINCIPAL
Mrs. Judith Wickline has com-
pleted her third full year as princi-
pal of Jonathan Dayton. During
these years Mrs. Wickline has
striven not only to maintain Day-
ton's high academic quality and
standards but also to develop the
spirit and morale of Dayton's stu-
dents. She has worked to improve
the physical environment at Day-
ton, too, exemplified by brightly
colored lockers and student art in
the hallways.
When asked to give his impres-
sions of the graduating class of 1993,
Mr. Pereira stated that they were
"cohesive and unusually coopera-
tive, along with being spirited and
fun-loving." He said that he enjoyed
working with the class and wishes
them much success in the future.

Natalie R. Waldt
May 18, 1992
Mrs. Natalie Waldt devoted
more than twenty-five years to
the service of the Union County
Regional High School District and
especially to the students and
staff at Jonathan Dayton. During
her tenure on the Regional Board
of Education she served as Board
President for seven years.
All who knew Mrs. Waldt will
remember that her constant goal
was to provide excellence in edu-
cation within the Regional Dis-
trict. She sought to provide stu-
dents with the best programs, the
best equipment and facilities, and
the best teaching staff. She spent
a great deal of time listening to
the concerns of parents, students,
and staff members in her attempts
to resolve whatever issues arose.
Natalie Waldt will be remem-
bered for her commitment to the
service of the Regional District,
her energy in pursuing her goals,
her sense of fairness and compas-

love for people.

Seniors have helped to keep pride alive at Dayton. Seniors
organized themselves to come out to support the Bulldogs
and show their spirit. They made an effort to try and get
more students involved in athletics. Seniors showed that
being dedicated to a team takes a lot of hard work, but the
end results can be rewarding. Being on a team creates a
feeling of being part of something, a sense of responsibility,
and it allows one to experience competitiveness. We have
come to understand and learn from failure but also enjoy the
pleasures of winning.

FOOTBALL
Show 'Em, Dawgs!
The 1993 Dawgs were faced
with a tough task even before
the season began. Any time a
team must play under a new
head coach, hard times can be
expected. Unfortunately, this
was the case for Edward
Manigan's squad this year. Yet
despite the losses, the 1992
Dayton football team showed a
lot of heart. This year's team
was led by tri-captains Gordon
Morrison, Sharod Wright, and
Jordan Pintado. The highlight of
the season was Dayton versus
Governor Livingston, where our
team's defense consistantly hel
back GL's offense. This year's

and senior Jordan Pintado.
James Basile and Sharod Wrig

STUDENT AUXILIARY
The Jonathan Dayton Student Auxiliary is a club at the
high school, always there to lend a helping hand. The
Student Auxiliary serves as ushers and guides to help
parents at open houses and at school plays. These students
also were called upon to escort interested parents and
students from Kenilworth and Garwood around Dayton.
The adviser to this group of hard working students is Mrs.

The Alternatives Club is a club started
by the students of Jonathan Dayton, with
the help of Mr. Clifford Lauterhann. The
Co-Presidents of the club are Mandi
Oberhauser and Hillary Raj. The club's
main purpose is to direct students away
from drugs and alcohol, and provide al-
ternatives. Each of the four schools in the
Regional District combined members to
participate in many organized activities.
The members meet to discuss past and
present events. From the meetings, come
new and brighter activities for the club.
The club has sponsored many Open Gym
Nights at the high school to give students
an alternative to drinking at parties or
getting into any other kind of trouble.
The club also meets every year with
younger students to talk about substance
abuse. The club has been a new and posi-
tive success for the High School.

DAYTON'S NEWEST CLUBS I
During the 1992-93 school year
three new clubs were started at
Jonathan Dayton. They are the En-
vironmental Club, the Video Club,
and the Israeli Culture Club. The
Environmental Club was started to
introduce environmental aware-
ness to the high school students
and one of their main goals was to
start a recycling program. The
Video Club was started in order to
produce student-made videos, us-
ing the school's equipment and
also to video school activities. The
Israeli Culture Club was started at
Dayton to bring the culture of Isra-
el to the students at Dayton, intro-
ducing Israeli foods and other Is-
raeli lifestyles. The three new
clubs add a new dimension to the
list of clubs at Dayton and also to
the student involvement at the
high school.

ENGLISH
"
English is a world within our world. It is
a subject that is essential in order for us
to survive in everyday life. Through our
English classes, we will discover the ex-
periences, journeys, and adventures that
aid us in developing our perceptions of
people and of the "real world." English
introduces us to wonderful literature -
poems, novels, plays and short stories
that tell of our past, show us the present,
and help us to imagine the future. English
is the tool with which we communicate.
Without English we would be speechless.

SOCIAL STUDIES
F ACE THE
It has been said that history
repeats itself. This year has
proved that saying to be true.
The United States was involved in
another battle in the Persian
Gulf. A woman's right to choose
to have an abortion was fought
over in the courts. And another
class from Jonathan Dayton will
graduate. Through our social
studies classes we have been
shown the difference between
right and wrong and taught how
to make an impact on our world
by standing up to be counted.
Now the time has come for the
students of Jonathan Dayton to
not only continue to learn about
history but also to start making
history.

SCIENCE
Students at Jonathan Dayton are fortu-
nate to be offered a wide variety of sci-
ence classes including Earth Science, Bi-
ology. Botony, Field Biology, Physical
Science. Chemistry, Oceanography, Sci-
ence, Man and Society, Physical Anthro-
pology, and Physics. This year the sci-
ence classes experimented with many
different things. Biology classes were
able to dissect various animals. Students
in Chemistry classes continued to experi-
ment with chemicals. In the Physics class
students experimented with various
forces and weights. Courses like Field Bi-
ology and Science, Man and Society were
new to some students this year. Many
students became interested in the con-
tent these classes offered. Those who
demonstrated an aptitude or an interest
in science were able to try out for the
Science League, which continued to be
successful in competitions this year.

MATH
"A Problem Well Stated Is A Problem

Charles F. Kettering
Josh Verbel tutors Kelly in the wonderful world of math.
Math teachers have a large re-
sponsibility. At the time of gradua-
tion, each student must have suc-
cessfully completed two years of
math. College bound students often
further their mathematical educa-
tion by taking Trigonmetry, Algebra
3 or Calculus after completing Alge-
bra I, Geometry and Algebra 2.
Teaching a math course is challeng-
ing and requires much patience and
skill. Each teacher uses his or her
own technique of teaching. The re-
sponsibility is left to the student to
go home and study the material.
Each student must prove himself,
just as each teacher does.

Music plays an important role in

course of the year in order to pr

HEALTH/PHYS ED
Health classes are an important part of
the Jonathan Dayton curriculum. Stu-
dents are introduced to things about
themselves that they do not learn in oth-
er classes. Everything from how the mind
works to how the body works is taught.
Students also learn the finer aspects of
driving in Sophomore Driver's Ed. class,
which prepares them for life on the road.
Sexual Education classes, taken during
the senior year, are also very helpful in
preparing the students both mentally and
physically, for life beyond high school.
Freshman and Junior year health classes
provide the students an opportunity to
study the finer points of human anatomy
as well as how to care for it with compre-
hensive First Aid lessons.

BUSINESS
Business is the foundation of
this great nation. So, as students
prepare to move on into the "real
world", they get a feel for it by
taking business courses. Lead by
enthusiastic teachers, students
learn in the areas of accounting,
business management, business
law, and several other areas. When
the students complete their se-

FRESHMEN
The Freshmen Class of 1996 entered the halls of
Dayton with spirit and curiosity. As the year pro-
gressed, their excitement turned into ability, and
we all watched the class become a strong part of the
Dayton family. With a great accumulation of money
from their fundraisers, many involved athletic
members, and active student council participation,
the Freshmen Class has proved to be an extremely
positive and outgoing group. They have shown
bright enthusiasm on Orange and Blue Day, deco
rated a great "circus" theme for Hall Decorating
and have, overall, become, in an amazingly shor
period of time, an important part of the Jonathai
Dayton community. In the years to come, we know
that Freshmen Class will grow and become an even
more well-rounded, involved, and spirited class!

As their second year of Jonathan Dayton
progresses, the Sophomore class of 1995
seems to be learning more and more and is
adjusting to high school days with full
excitement. This year's Sophomore class
has won many school competitions, such as
stealing away the spirit megaphone at our

Dayton Decks The Halls
Tradition at Dayton starts with spirit. This year each class showed their enthusiasm
and dedication by participating in the hall decorating contest. Each class decided
upon a theme and was given a designated hallway in which they put their pep and
creativity to work. The Sophomore class was judged to have created the most
spectacular hall, but the entire first floor looked wonderful. The winning theme was
"The Jungle," but the Freshman class' "Circus", the Juniors' "The Environment," and
the Seniors' "Through The Ages" were all fabulous. Each class worked long and hard to
produce an imaginative hallway and the work showed. Spirit and tradition have not
left Dayton hearts.
The sophomore class displayed their creative talent Danielle thimks "He looks tough, but he's really just

In the heel of my thumb
are whorls, whirls, wheels
in a unique design:
mine alone.
What treasure to ownl
My own flesh, my own feelings.
No other, however grand or base.
can ever contain the same.
My signature,
thumbing the pages of my time.
My universe key,
my singularity.
Impress, implant,
I am myself,
of all my atom parts I am the sum.
And out of my blood and brain
I make my own interior weather,
my own sun and rain.
Imprint my mark upon the world,
whatever I shall become.
- -EVE MERRIAM
As this yearbook comes to a close, so does the 1992-93 school year. This yearbook was published to establish a permanent
record of the 1992-93 school year and to give the class of 1993 an everlasting memento of its years at Jonathan Dayton.
Compiling the yearbook took a lot of dedicated time and effort. There are many people to thank for their commitment:
Wendy Saladino, Sports Editor! Michelle Parker, Assistant Editor; Stacey-Ann Benjamin, Assistant Editor; Billy Hilliard, and
Adriana Yaniuk, Photographers-, Jason Perle, Business Manager; Brett Cohen, Business Manager; and special thanks to Jodi
Krumholz, Co-Editor-in-Chief. I also give a thousand thanks to Mrs. Evelyn McGill, Yearbook Adviser, and to Mr. David Van
Hart. Business Adviser, without whom this yearbook would have been impossible to publish. All of the individuals listed above
helped make the Regionalogue an expression of our days at Dayton. I hope everyone enjoys this year's Regionalogue and that
it leaves a lasting impression for you and for our school.
In closing, on behalf of the Class of 1993, I thank all of the teachers, advisers, coaches, and administrators for four
memorable years at Dayton.
