The following bibliography tries to be relatively comprehen-
sive on current rural housing problems and suggested solutions,
with a few older references for historical basis of the problem.

Rural poverty references, on the other hand, are skeletal at
best. There is an attempt to indicate the scope of the problem
and some suggested solutions, any facet of which could be and has
been the subject of extensive research. Comprehensive bibliograph-
ical work would have to cover, in addition to the general area of
rural poverty (both historical and current, here and abroad),
regional references and in-depth coverage on minority groups liv-
ing in rural poverty: the young, the aged, the handicapped, the
migratory worker, and special racial groups. There is also a
growing recognition of the importance to the urban crisis picture
of the migration of the rural poor to the cities - where they
usually become the urban poor. One suggested solution indicates
another avenue of investigation: the possibility of relocating
some of the rural poor in 'new towns 'j others involve physical
reclamation of 'spoiled' lands and better planning for future
'land use', both environmental and economic.

After many years of almost imperceptible progress by both
public and private agencies in aiding the rural poor, many govern-
ment agencies are beginning to stress the need for new approaches

and action now. There may be many more reports and guidelines

on this subject in the near future.
