To William C. Wild, Jr.

You hove OS a teacher, as Depart-
ment Chairperson, as Dean, and now
as President dedicated your life to the
creation and continued development
of Southeastern Massachusetts Univer-
sity. Your skills OS an educator and an
administrator, and your deep personal
concern for the welfare of this commu-
nity have left their mark on genera-
tions of SMU students. It is lasting grati-
tude that we dedicate this yearbook
to you.

student advisory program

The Student Advisor Program is aimed at presenting
peer advisement to SMU students concerning their
academic and social needs. The Student Advisors re-
ceive training in helping sl<ills as well as in the facilities
available at SMU. Their goal is to listen to students'
feelings reguarding SMU and to provide supportive
information.

student senate

The SMU Student Senate is the governing organi-
zation that represents all SMU students. The
nnembers of the Senate are elected and in turn
are appointed by the President of the Student
Senate to various faculty and administrative
committees.

The SMU Theatre company is a very widely
known campus group. Each year they produce
seven plays, two of which are musicals. Students
are involved in all phases of the work from acting
to set-design.

wusm

I

The main object of WUSM is to serve as a source of
information to the general student body. This in-
cludes community and campus news and an-
nouncements, as well as current events. WUSM is
the only progressive radio station in the area, pro-
viding music popular with students that they may
not hear elsewhere. WUSM has worked hard for the
reputation they now attain. Two years ago they
were granted increased wattage, which now
stands at 1500 megaherts. This year a new sound
system was put in, and next year . .? Much credit
goes to General Manager Mike Voisine

mcgovern

George McGovern appeared at
the SMU campus one week be-
fore the Massachusetts primary.
He was well received and dis-
cussed his positions of a reduced
defense and arms budget, his be-
lief in a nuclear freeze, and his
desire if elected President to stop
U.S. military operations in Central
America.

110

Governor Dukakis spoke here in
late October, expressing his sup-
port for S.M.U. as the "center of
excellence for Southeastern Mas-
sachuetts." He stated his desire
for a new science building in the
future.

smu policemen's ball

The SMU Police Force is a key port of SMU tliat should not be
over looked, They are working every day to keep this campus
safe. This year especially, rules and restrictions became
tighter; the dreaded front gate rood block as an example.
But, their rules are of course efforts to keep us from harm and
danger. As an appreciation and benefit for the SMU students,
once a year the Police Force throws a fund raising ball for
scholarship purposes.

special Olympics

SMU certainly proved itself this year as the host of the Bristol County
Special Olympics. No one thought we could do it, but with much enthusi-
asm on the part of the Vets Club, WUSM, and key individuals such as John
Montigny and John Comoro, the Olympics ran smoothly. It was quite an
event for everyone involved.

Her voice floated upward with .
sweet summer air, very tuneful,

They could not alter your feelings: for that matter
you could not alter them yourself, even if you want-
ed to. They could lay bare in the utmost detail
everything  that  you  had  done  or  said  or  thought;
but the inner heart, whose workings were mysteri-

»ha!"s a pond without ducks'' Ducks
would give us a!! something to look at.
photo studetits could take picJures of
them, nursing, bio. and psych tnajors
could study them, chddrcn from the
day care center could learn about
them and collect the discarded leath-

As Editor, I Jennifer Nixdorf, would like to dedicate the lost page to my staff: Lay-out
Editor Tara DiPersio, Photo Editors Chuck Sirois and Colleen Hanlan, Copy Editor Steve
Wilson, and all others who helped: Chris Kennedy, Linda Poccia, Mike Southard, Beth
Wihry, Joyce Rainey ....

Much recognition sould be given to Tara DiPersio and Chuck Sirois for responcibility and
effort toward the majority of the book. Credit goes to Chuck for the cover design, Tara
for the design theme and thanks to Rene Boutin for the cover photograph.

It was said that it couldn't, or shouldn't be done. Yes, this book was put together in a
mere five months. Due to the lack of an organizational staff, the book was off to a late
start in January. Therefore, I owe a lot to those who contributed in efforts to collect first
semester pictures. Thanks to: the Torch, SMU A.V. dept., Manny Perera and Julie Tremb-
lay, SMU Athletics, Bill Gathright and Judy Sullivan, Campus Prpmotions, Greg Stone and
Ken Boostrom, and The Imogemakers as the campus photographers.

I conclude my thank you's with mention of Norvall Garnett, Jr. As Sales Rep. and
Counselor he played an important role in our guidance. Thanks Norv and thank you to
every one who contributed to Scrimshaw 1984.

A success or not we hove come to completion.

CHEERS. To the book that almost wasn't!
