Subject: Sawdust Trail the stories are riveting
Subject: Sawdust Trail the stories are riveting
Now, upon reading the title I had no idea what the Sawdust Trail was. I listen to Alister Begg on Truth for Life. He is not anything but as he says it. "a meer man" by which God speaks clearly through Alister Begg. There is hardly a message where Alister had made mention one or two songs, many of the from the Beatles.
The songs almost always bring his sermons to a greater point of clarity. It was in one such sermon that he mentions "Song stories of the Sawdust Trail.
It was my deepest desire to locate and read this book. Not knowing the context would draw my attention to the many lives that were brought to Christ through these gospel songs.
The deep painful lives in which these people struggled. The deep darkness of sinful ways, liqueur women,
and world living. Not much different than what we find in our world even today.
Some of the stories with attempts to end their lives filled with depression. The book mentions more than once how people going down the streets would be singing, whistling, or humming these very gospel tunes. Which they learned mainly at the Billy Sunday Tabernacle, hence the title Sawdust Trail.
My favorite is the very first song "Brighten the Corner Where you are." whose author wanted very much to impact the world for Christ. But health did not allow her to physically do so. It was through this song that the very impact prayed for became a reality. In fact, go on Youtube and search this song to see how it is still impacting the world today over a hundred and 10 years later. It is a great tune itself and surely it has impacted even me.
The book is a very worthy book to read.
