Dedication

George B. Goddard

We the class of 1968 are honored to dedicate this the fiftieth edition of STOSAG
to such an outstanding person as GEORGE B. GODDARD.

Dr. Goddard received his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts in 1954 majoring
in floriculture. He continued his education at the University receiving his M.S. in 1958
with a major horticulture and P.H.D. in 1963 with a major in botany. Dr. Goddard
was an instructor at Virginia Polytech. in 1954, before joining the staff here and at the
University in September 1955. Since arriving here he has served on many committees, and
at present is the advisor to Stosai^ and the University Horticultural Society. Dr. Goddard
also serves on the S.U.G. Board, the University of Massachusetts Faculty Senate on
Student Affairs and the Stockbridge Advisory Committee. Along with all of these activities
he teaches at Stockbridge, carries on many projects and still willingly finds time to help
any student.

Thomas Cataldo, Ronald Clough, Ronald Cooper, Jeff Ferguson, Ken Lever, Stephen
Luther, WilHam Pratt, Douglas Proctor, David Sears, Craig Schofield. Team Captain, Ron-
ald Cough, Coach Col. John C. Marchant.

Twenty-nine candidates turned out when the Stockbridge Rifle Team entered it's 10th sea-
son as a recognized sports team at Stockbridge School and its 9th season under charter from
the National Rifle Association as a College Club.

With limited range space and practice time it was necessary to reduce the squad early in the
season so that team members can have a minimum of two hours practice each week. Five
seniors and five freshmen ultimately made regular positions on the team.
Although starting the season with a loss to the University of Massachusetts varsity, the
Stockbridge riflemen thereafter went undefeated in shoulder-to-shoulder competition up to
Stosag press time. Prospects looked bright for victories over Boston College Freshmen and
Dartmouth College Freshmen in the final two ma.tches of the season.
