"STOSAG 70 Dedication"

Coach Kosakowski is presented his award by Editor Paul Parent.

"Stosag 70 Dedication"

The yearbook staff has chosen to dedicate this
1970 Stosag to Steven R. Kosakowski. Coach Kosa-
kowski, as he is known to most of us, exemplifies
the words on the Stockbridge seal. He has genuinely
give us his best — with his body, heart, and soul.

During his youth, Steve was always a sports
stand-out. In 1940 he graduated from the Stock-
bridge school and afterwards served in World War
II, gaining recognition for longer service at that
time than any other Amherst serviceman, it was in
1948 that he returned to coach athletics at both
the University of Massachusetts and Stockbridge.
A hockey team for Stockbridge became reassem-
bled at that time. Football was started in 1950 and
since that time Steve has been coach for basketball,
baseball, and until this year he coached the Stock-
bridge soccer team.

With his inspiration and skill to develop confi-
dence, coach Kosakowski is long remembered by
his boys. Possessing the traits of being a hard work-
er, unselfish and having a healthy attitude on win-
ning, he gained respect, admiration, and comrade-
ship from those he coached as he played right
along with them,
with them.

Steve's colleagues also hold a high esteem for
him. He is spoken of as a "well-rounded jack-of-all-
trades."

The name "Unsinkable Steve" was given him re-
cently In an article in the Springfield Union. Glau-
coma has cost him the sight of one eye and reduced
the vision on the other to mere shadows. Although
the going may be getting tougher, his world is far
from a dark and private place.

This past basketball and soccer season, he was
many times seen at our games, showing that his
interest in Stockbridge still shines on.

A friend remembers Steve as often saying "we
may not win many games, but we sure build a lot
of character and have fun." Steven R. Kosakowski's
inspiration and dedication will long be remembered
in the history of Stockbridge school.

Stephen R. Kosakowski

"Do a little more of that work which you had
sometime confessed to be good, which you
feel that society and your justest judge rightly
demand of you. Do what you reprove yourself
for not doing. Know that you are neither satis-
fied nor dissatisfied with yourself without rea-
son. Let me say to you and to myself in one
breath, cultivate the tree which you have found
to bear fruit in your soil."

-Thoreau

The "70" stosag yearbook is an attempt to tell it like it is here at Stock-
bridge. The book follows the Trend set by the "69" but is very different in
itself. The book leans toward Stockbridge activities with the University
campus as its background. Between these pages the staff and I hope you have
found what you experienced, participated in, and felt during the past year.

At this time I would like to thank my staff, for doing a great job: Dave
McKenna, Richard Farreli, Dennis Case, George Brown, Richard Lavoie,
Joseph Naff, Sandy Woodford, Chris Woodword. These people did their job
when it had to be done, and did it right. I would also like to thank my year-
book advisor Prof. Pira, Dave Lombard, Mrs. Frey, and Shafer Studios of N.Y.
for their understanding, help, time and moral support when it was needed.

Finally my sincere thanks to three people who made the book what it is:
Bruce Caswell, Sports. Cleta Mohan, Seniors and a dear friend Marilyn
Gilmore who worked the longest and hardest of all to make it just that much
better. Thank You All!
