Nathaniel Foote, Esq., was married to Olivia M. Knox,
daughter of John and Mary Knox, of Nelson, Madison County,
N. Y. , April 28, 1847. She was born August 16, 1814.
Nathaniel Foote is the oldest son of Asa Foote, of Sherburne,
N. Y. Asa Foote was the brother next younger than Nathaniel
Foote, whose early death caused an interruption to the family
appellative. But it is resumed in Asa Foote's family by his
naming his eldest son Nathaniel, and has been continued for
three generations, all of whom are now living. I hope the oldest
son of the oldest son will still continue to be called Nathaniel
through all coming generations.
Nathaniel Foote is a lawyer of successful practice in Morris-
ville, N. Y. On his admission to the bar in 1840 he commenced
practice at Morrisville, the county neat of Madison County, N. Y.,
where he has ever since followed his profession. Soon after he
commenced practice he was appointed master and examiner in
chancery, which office he held until the court of chancery was
abolished by the adoption of the new State constitution in 1848.
