Subject: Do Kids Still Run in the Hall?
Subject: Do Kids Still Run in the Hall?
One of Coronet's efforts that doesn't come across as camp. Old people griping about the way kids dress today should note Alvin's blue flower shirt and Ernie's pants hitched up like some rural grandpa.
I'm sure the attitude "I deserve an exception" hasn't changed since this film was made in 1953.
Hall monitors are so quaint. Don't some American schools have armed teachers?
Betty wins the Coronet Stiffer-Than-a-Board Acting Award for her performance at 2:00 . She even needs to cheat to say her lines, looking down at the words.
Allan Gray's "Gorgeous Hussy" from the Harmonic library opens the film.

Subject: In The 1950's Girls Were Angels
Some of these boys look grotesque. Their hips are way too big; out of proportion to their upper torso. Is this a "special" school?
I don't think I remember a girl getting reprimanded, It got worse the higher the grade. By sixth grade the teachers (female ones, typically) treated the girls like princesses and the boys like delinquents. Any boy who never got a "D" or "E" on his report card would get one in the 6th grade! It was formula.
This movie should be titled "School Rules FOR BOYS"
Typical Cornell.

The first part about 'exceptions' in the library should be required watching at the school library I work at! I can't count how many times students come in and start whining about this or that when I plainly say 'No'.

Would anyone be so kind as to transcribe what Herney and Mr. Taylor say when speaking about the stairway? There are a few words I can't grasp. Thank you

Subject: Extremely Average
Note 1: The school building looks LOVELY!
Note 2: Would I be correct to assume that, like in later decades, a discussion would be held after the film was shown to make some parts more clear?
Note 3: This is one of the least dated Coronet films you are likely to see.
Note 4: I admit I hate people reviewing other peoples reviews, but I'm gonna be a asshole and a hypocrite and say that Marysz is over-examining this film. It's only 10 minutes long with an intentionally small-as-possible cast, and whether it had features girl characters instead or note, it still would have been exactly the same. (I guess, one could argue that the Baseball theme prevented female characters, but that would still be over-examining an intentionally disposable film)
Note 5: Colour-quality is excellent.
Note 6: I like that music at the start, sounds like something from a Noveltoon.
Note 7: I must admit I LOL'ed at the voice of the narrater not really matching the character he is supposed to be.
Note 8: Sound quality is excellent, with the voices being very clear and easy to hear.

Subject: Girls breaking the rules?????
I guess all the reason there are no girls breaking the rules is that all the bad girls who broke the rules were under the bleachers with various and sundry football players and the good girls were all working in the library.

Made in 1953, this short film does a good job in teaching that generation the reasons for school rules.

Somewhat blah overview of why schools need so many rules. This later Coronet film is nice to look at in color, but I was somewhat glazed over by the story, which tells of a principal's encounters with various students. The only highlight comes with the dream sequence and Allan's peculiar choice of shirt..
