Data recorded include survey and hydro number (no.), date, machine, turns, correction, depth, shot or lead, bottom, bottom temperature, number of thermometer, correction, corrected temperature, air temperature, surface temperature, drift, trawl or dredge, sounding wire readings, dredge rope readings, serial temperatures, and general remarks. Some notes on fish and other marine life collected are included. 1894 localities include San Diego Bay [Alaska?; California?]. 1893 localities are not named, but coordinates for the Gulf of Alaska and Sitka Bay are included
