This item consists of Bailey's notes on the flora and fauna of the Washington, D.C. area from February 15-June 15, 1940 and his field notes on the plants and animals of New Mexico and Arizona within the context of Bailey's research on animal traps. Narrative entries are dated and describe localities in terms of nearby place names and elevation. Lists of scientific or common names of specimens caught and observed by Bailey are included. Localities include the Zuni Mountains, Mount Taylor, and Blue Water Creek canyon in New Mexico, and Cottonwood Gulch and Canyon de Chelly in Arizona. The item also includes notes on meetings and lectures given by Bailey in 1940 in various locations throughout the United States
