This would be a half decent piece if it weren't played so badly. Suffice it to say this is a very crude (and as far as I recall the only) demo version, which was never intended for publication or broadcast. I can't remember when I wrote it but it was recorded shortly afterwards, probably sometime between September 1986 and 1991.
As far as I recall, ITMA Variations Improvisation Number One, Jack Knife Strut and Room At The Top were all written about the same time, and were developed from the same chord progression. They were probably written and recorded nearer 1991 than 1986 because at the former time I was concentrating on songwriting solo, with Alan Barber and the late Mrs Jefferies.
