Hello. This is my 0:55 100% speed run for Super Metroid, played on the console. I am very pleased with this run, as it beats my old time of 1:00 as well as the previous record of 0:58. Lots of new stuff was done in my run; many things thought up by other players, some by myself.
I'd like to thank several people who helped me during this video, which took about 3 weeks of off-and-on playing to get (partly due to being severely out of practice when I first started this about the second week of May).
Without their help and support, I would not have done as decent as I did, so I would like to thank Nate for encoding my video to DivX, Radix for getting it put up online as well as for the idea to skip the energy refill in Tourian (I always said Reserve Tanks are cool), Evilchen (who says a 0:56 is perfect with the old route) with the Maridia mainstreet missile method (although I slightly did it wrong in the video) as well as with getting the Spring Ball without the Grapple Beam.
I'd like to thank the Metroid2002.com guys: Trebor, Kip, Ajbolt89, and Tzyr for their moral support as I probably wouldn't have finished without them egging me on. I'd also like to thank Steven Joshlin for his moral support as well. Also a thanks to Smokey for his method of getting out of the first Missile area faster, and for giving me a reason to improve on my 1:00 and his 0:58. Lastly, I would like to thank a friend who gave me tons of ideas and useful things to try, such as all the new boss strategies, the idea of spike jumping and enemy boosting, confirming my proposed route and helping with the initial route (which I changed after the Wrecked Ship), as well as helping me finally get to that annoying Spring Ball without the Grappling Beam. Thanks guys. ^^
As of right now, Twin Galaxies doesn't like the Mockball, and I do quite a few of those, among other things they would probably deem banned. So no record for me there. Oh well, maybe this video will change their minds about the Mockball, as it is basically made into a regular move for me now in the videos.
As much as I want to talk about the neato stuff I do (sans messups that pretty much I *only* made in the recorded segments, like the start of part 2 and the horrible X-Ray Scope room), I think the video itself can tell the story better than I.
I did not get everything off, as I missed a couple of Super Jumps/Shinesparks, some enemy boosts, some spike jumps, etc.
I am pretty sure that this run will have something new in it for everybody (if not the Mockballs, spike jumps, monster boosting, or boss fights, then the final route I decided to go). Anyway, I truly hope you enjoy this, likely my last Metroid series video.

Red Scarlet, i gotta say that was an awesome route you took! your little tricks are awesome, you are truly the best i have seen on this game.
i am 41 and bought this game when it first came out. my best is 1:34 with 100%. you made me look so slow!i still own the SNES system and that game, i will never part with it. i now have PS3 but those old platform games are still the best. i think super metroids is one of the greatest games of all time and you are the grand master. i think you could shave another 5 mins easily of your time. also, you didnt rescue the little creatures from the room where you collected the "ball bomb" at the begining. you need to do this at the end of your final escape before you leave the planet.

Nice moves, but try it without enhancing the gameplay taking out Samus' extra sprites (Boost ball???? Come on. Prime, not Super. Kraid 5 super missle hit???? Only on Zero.) Trust kid I'm not hating, just congratulating....

I find it kind of hard to believe that after more than a year this is the first review your run has recieved. Well, as I said, awesome. Hands-down the best speed run I've seen. But, there is room for improvement, as I'm sure you know. Playing again using your route as a template, I still got a slightly higher score going through upper Norfair before the Wrecked Ship, but I'm also lacking in alot of the techniques you used -- not sure how that affected my time. Also, I recently checked Twin Galaxies, and the fastest time there is 42:00, but more importantly, and you CAN use unrestricted Crystal Flash and MOCHBALL. I think you're easily skilled enough to dethrone that run, but I can't say for certain as Twin Galaxies doesn't hand out video downloads for reference (most unfortunate). I'm not sure what they'd think of the plazma/spazer glitch you used on Ridley, or the spike and monster boosting, you'd have to ask about it on the forums or by email; I searched through the forums myself and couldn't find anything about it.
On a side note, I personally find 42:00 kind of hard to belive without seeing proof in front of me, regardless of the site's legitamacy. A part of the reason I want to see you beat it is because I've seen your video and could believe that you did in fact get that low of time.
