Some might call it satire.
Notes
Written by Alexander Baron, (born 1956), this is one of many of the short pamphlets I put out on the ITMA label. Actually, the word Sexism in the title does not include quote marks, though usually I italicise that vacuous word. This was originally copyright InƒoText Manuscripts, (1997).

Subject: Useless pamphlet
Subject: Useless pamphlet
In an intendedly tone of humour, but of rather pathetic results, the author briefly considers three possibilities that might explain the vastly superior number of masculine Chess players in comparison to that of feminine Chess players. He first mentions an ancient 'conspiracy' sworn by all men players, against ever permitting the entrance of women into the highest ranks of the game, thus keeping women inside their proper place as mere amateurs, never to become any serious threat to masculine dominance. He discards such a far-fetched hypothesis as unproven. Secondly he passes review to the possibility of members of the feminine sex being of inferior intellectual capacity, on the average, to those of the masculine sex. He also rejects the thesis as undemonstrated. Then he conjectures that the exclusion of Ladies may not be the consequence of a fully conscious ancient conspiracy, but of spontaneous and instinctive drive of men for keeping women out of the Noble Game, as if their massive presence at the top level could somehow put in question the supremacy of men in all worthy pursuits of life. He takes this notion as the ultimate cause that governs the relative absence of women in Chess. Then he proposes Draconian measures, ridiculous ones really, for fostering participation of female players by exemplary punishment of every male player who dare show by act, word or gesture the slightest contempt against any Lady taking part in the game. Fully satisfied at his 'clever solution', he puts an end to his short and absurd pamphlet of few pages. Fortunately. He does not even contemplate one other, and a very obvious possibility: the statistical fact that most women simply have NO INTEREST in the game of Chess. Numbers of course vary greatly from country to country. Out of the almost two hundred national federations affiliated to FIDE in 2022, the proportion of federated women players ranges from three per cent in Denmark, to forty per cent in Vietnam. Thus, ninety-seven per cent of all federated players in Denmark are men, and sixty per cent of all federated players in Vietnam are men, excluding a few individuals of possibly undefined, unknown, or alternating sex. By official FIDE regulations, federations are supposed to inform FIDE of the name and sex of every individual player, besides a few other data. There is no real 'discrimination' of women in Chess, what there is in reality is an almost levelled presence of young girls and young boys as beginners, in a sizeable number of nations, though not in all of them. Then, for whatever reason or reasons, most girls drop out of the game when they reach puberty, while a comparatively higher number of boys persist in it. Some boys also drop out, and some girls persist, but the statistical evidence shows the number of quitting girls to be much higher than the number of quitting boys. Men as well as women may return to regular practice of Chess later in life, or both may first learn the game as adults, but the available numbers point to a dramatic fall of teenage girls, much more than of teenage boys. Why this is so, is a matter of discussion, but the numbers undisputably show that the phenomenon happens. When asked about their reasons for stopping playing Chess, girls tend to declare that they have simply "lost interest". Boys in general give more varied and more specific answers. Until further studies, let us leave the mystery at that. Women pursue other vocations in life, whether by biological instinct, or by cultural influences, or by some other constraints, or just because they decide to do so. Men, comparatively more often, keep their activity in Chess. Considering the smaller base of feminine players, it would be amazing if they managed to get the World Champion Title. A few, very few, have not been very far from it. Lady Polgar Judit was at one time in the eighth place of the international Chess ranking, and a powerful contender for the absolute World Title (disconsidering the exclusively feminine titles). But then... Oh, fatality ! She married, she had children, and Nature summoned her to more important aims than becoming the first woman absolute World Champion of Chess. Will the pattern be repeated ? Studying the biographies of top playing Ladies, one cannot avoid the conclusion that the pattern WILL more or less be repeated. Some day a woman may become the absolute World Champion at Chess. For how long she shall be able to defend her Title, is a matter of conjecture. Not without a certain amount of speculative interest, but at any rate a relatively secondary interest. Because we must not forget that since shortly before the end of the XX century the REAL Chess Champions are not human. They are computers. And they will likely remain Champions, teaching a lesson of humility to feminine and masculine pretensions of intellectual dominance. Except in the case of apocalyptic DISASTER (which is by no means an impossibility), computers are here to stay. Let us then put aside puerile gender conflicts and imagined struggles for power between men and women, and continue enjoying our ancient game while we can. Which may not be for long.
