Materials document Alexander Wetmore efforts to investigate damage done by birds to rice crops in Arkansas and Texas, while working for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Bureau of Biological Survey. Includes a field diary, 12 December 1917 - 6 January 1918, photographs, receipts, correspondence, and a report on the investigation. Report on Colorado and Texas: describes processing of farming rice in region irrigated by the Colorado River; damage from Blackbirds; discusses specific companies in the region; damage seen below Houston Texas. Report on Stuttgart and Dewitt [De Witt], Arkansas covers: general description of rice farming in the area; damage by ducks; damage seen at specific farms; and damage by blackbirds. There are a bird reports for the same areas, listing scientific name, frequency of sightings, and locations were seen.
