Points out that the bicycle rider is responsible for maintaining the bicycle in good condition, obeying traffic rules and watching out for others. The film also reads like a laundry list of hazardous things to attempt on your bicycle!
Those familiar with Lawrence, Kansas (Centron's home) may recognize some landmarks.

Don't you want to see handicapped entrances, 1950?
This is a wonderfully made film, a real periscope glimpse of sixty one years ago. Note that the sidewalks have sloping entrance driveways for the cars, but not for people? It is a fine, genial, instructive film, nothing tedious about it. Some bikes, too! Nice kids and a good outfit that made this film. Note they removed the windshield from the camera car for proper filming. All the shots are well planned, the narration is pleasant. Kansas is nice place to grow up in, then and now.

The Rogers' Sign
In one of the early frames the bike rider passes the Rogers' sign which was my family home at 1108 West Hills Terrace. Thanks for saving this Centron film for us to view.

Home
That's my brother, Jon Traylor, who is the one appearing just after the airplane sequence, repairing & checking his bike. That's our house (back door) in the background at 1601 High Drive in Lawrence. Brings back fond memories of an easier lifestyle.

1950 cycling in Kansas
More interesting as a glimpse of Lawrence, Kansas in 1950 than as a bicycle safety film. Don't miss the pratfall when Dad trips over Junior's bike with an armload of groceries.

Here little girláæ
Pretty standard bicycle safety film here, even for a Centron film. The only unusual thing is the way they tell you to make left turns. Probably the creepiest thing about it is the way the filmmakers filmed a girl on her bike going slowly on the street, like we were stalking her or something. Pervs!

Bike's eye view of Lawrence
Sure it's a cheesy '50's bicycle safety film, but it was filmed in Lawrence, Kansas, my home town. If you're from Lawrence this flick has good historical interest. Try and pick out as many of the locations as you can. Surprisingly down town Lawrence looks quite different, though I think you'll easily spot a few landmarks.

Slow Cycling in Murky Black-and-White
Dry Centron bicycle safety film containing rules, rules, and more rules for riding your bike. There are a few amusing moments of examples of what not to do, and the overall environment is very representative of 50s suburbia, but mostly this is pretty tedious.
Ratings: Camp/Humor Value: **. Weirdness: **. Historical Interest: ****. Overall Rating: ***.
