Outstanding show as the band showed only a little rust from the first non-injury related extended break in their career. The wind definitely impacted this recording but we are so lucky to have it--thanks!
The first set came out firing and didn't let up…a great "Whoops" and "Weird Chick-->Slow Change" to close brought more thunder to an already booming sky.
Set 2 saw the dreaded wind and altitude set in, but still had some outstanding moments including the first Suite (with Chan singing backup for perhaps the only time I can remember)…was so amazing to see something so different from them at a time where so much was expected…who would have thought at the time that this concept record would never happen?
"Superstition" was awesome as well…wish it had stayed in constant rotation instead of "Devil" which is so old and tired now. The show motored to a strong finish that would have been even better if "Mountain Cry" hadn't been a late scratch as the encore.
Overall, a solid start to an awesome year for BT. Not their best Red Rocks show, but it contained several debuts and set the stage for night two...one of my favorite all time BT shows. I miss the great atmosphere of the Red Rocks shows back then-- fans who knew ALL of the songs and were proud of it.
