It’s not every day a Grateful Dead member floats into Maine, but in 2019 they were blessed with this great Bob Weir and Wolf Bros show as well as a visit from Phil Lesh and Friends a few months later via the traveling Outlaw Music Festival. 3/9/19 was Bob’s third and final New England show of the tour, and the trio really put forth a memorable performance!
As mentioned in a previous review, there’s lots of blues on tap. Good Morning Little Schoolgirl (90’s RatDog arrangement!), Little Red Rooster, Fever… even a bunch of Bob’s own tunes are dipped in the blues, especially Even So > October Queen, Loose Lucy (acoustic!) and Truckin’. This structural spread of the blues across the setlist provides a sturdy base for the other songs to nestle into, and I think the contrasts really bring the tunes to life! Cassidy has all the thoughtful wandering and zing of a good sativa high, and I think this gorgeous rendition of Most of the Time is the crown jewel of the show, if not the whole tour! I imagine Bob really floored the whole room with that one.
The other big highlights for me are the fun Bombs Away and brooding Weather Report Suite, both of which are always very well-suited for this band. The Wolf Bros seem to prefer using China > Rider as a second set closer instead of a first set closer or second set opener. They’ll often wrap up the second set with it and follow it up with a ballad for the encore, and I think this tactic is a great way to end a show! I don’t know how much of a hand Bob has in making the setlist for a given night, but I sure love whatever formula this band uses. It’s worth noting that this is the best show from Don Was that I’ve heard yet. His playing is strong throughout, and in the few instances where Bob doesn’t see a clear route into the next segment of a jam, like at certain spots in Rooster or China Cat, Don Was rumbles right ahead and lays it on thick to give the whole arrangement extra horsepower.
A fantastic recording of a fantastic Wolf Bros show. Part of me wishes they’d added just one more jammy psychedelic piece, like Row Jimmy or Bird Song, but on second thought I think the theme of blues numbers, deep cuts, and rockers that they had going are what make this one so unique! Fire this one up!

My favorite recording of this tour so far. Lots of unique grooves, especially GMLSG and Cassidy. Highlights for me GMLSG, Little Red Rooster, Bombs Away, WRS>Let it Grow, and Ripple. Great recording.
