SCNHRB c. 1 (39088013370697) is imperfect: all of the plates, with the exception of "Beetles", "Orthopterous insects", and "Butterflies", are wanting; blank tissue guardsheets (some with offsetting from plates that were once part of this copy) are inserted throughout the volume
SCNHRB c. 1 has stamps on t.p.: Normal Hall, Westfield, Mass.; Smithsonian Libraries. With pencil annotation in gutter of p. [iii]: Waldo Schmitt; and a few ms. pencil markings throughout
SCNHRB c. 1 has a typed note laid-in: "4/24/45 wrote to Dr. Edward J. Scanlon, Pres. Westfield State Teachers College, asking if this volume belongs in their library. LMc."
SCNHRB c. 1 has an old gilt-tooled black half-leather binding with embossed-cloth-covered boards (front cover wanting); housed in an archival box for preservation
SCNHRB c. 2 (39088013370838) is imperfect: the half-title leaf, the leaf containing a list of the plates, and all plates are wanting
