Subject: A Few Above Average Jams, One Really Good
Subject: A Few Above Average Jams, One Really Good
Sound - Average/Above-Average
Hope > Triumph > The Big Happy > I Remember When - I love Hope. When they get into the faster portion, around 4:50, Barber turns on an auto-wah(ish) effect on his guitar, and I can't stand the sound of it. Sounds so cheesy. The Hope jam goes nowhere. The jam in Triumph, though, is really neat. Has that dark trip-hop sound to it. Big Happy > IRW is exactly how you think it sounds.
Camera B > Ulua > Camera B - I really like the jam in Camera B. Nice downtempo jam. Barber and Magner make this jam. Very good interplay between them. The Ulua jam is decent as well. Sounds very much like an island jam, very chilled out, good lines from Barber, and Sammy does very well here knowing what role to play in the jam. The jam picks up pace very naturally and is very well done overall.
Rock Candy - Magner really owns this jam at its start, and Barber carries the torch from him about halfway through. Again, very well done, nice melodic theming from Barber throughout.
42 > I-Man > 42 - I really enjoy the jam out of 42. A few different cool themes, I especially like what Barber's playing around 12:25. In I-Man, the jam after the first verse is pretty boring (though I'd barely call it a jam), as is the jam into the "I'm only doin' what I caaan," portion, but the 3rd jam is fantastic, especially around 13:48 (Magner). 4th jam here is also fantastic, starts out a nice light little happy jam and does a good job evolving into something much darker.
Spy > HAB > Crix (end) - Up to the Spy jam, the jams in this show were above average, but nothing really, really good. The Spy jam is spacey psychedelic electronic music, with Magner playing around with crazy noises. This is easily the best part of the night. HAB is actually pretty good, neat little jam with Barber playing a few cool things here and there. Magner uses Gates of Hell for just a little bit. Crix ending is pretty meh.
Home Again - Standard.
A few above-average jams (Triumph, Rock Candy, and I-Man) and one really good jam - Spy.
