Subject: This Confrontation is awesome.
Subject: This Confrontation is awesome.
Sound is below-average here. Far too much bass.
Jam - This "jam" is really like a minute and a half, but it's a sweet ambient jam with lots of spacey playing. This is awesome but I wish they would have stretched it out much much longer.
Boogie Stop Shuffle - Standard. Not a big fan of this song.
B&C > Floes - The jam here is very long (~16 minutes or so) but the first half is pretty aimless and the second half is a little generic. I'm not all that impressed, though the peak is fantastic. They drop straight from the end of B&C into a Floes intro jam, but the intro jam is short and pretty much a type I jam. As far as the Floes jam, this is exactly what I want out of a Floes jam. Very spacey stuff from Magner with some cool licks thrown in by Barber and locomotion jamming from Brownstein and Sammy. I really enjoy this jam. Great build into a huge peak with Magner playing the lead. I really wish Magner was an octave higher for the peak.
Shimmy > Rock Candy - This Shimmy jam starts out "dirty, dirty" (said in a Norm MacDonald voice). Really cool phrygian jamming, especially from Brownstein and Magner. There's a really cool part where everybody drops out and they slowly build back up before they drop into the awesome of 11:47. This is such an awesome evil jam; easily one of the best "dark" jams I've heard from these men. The "segue" into Shimmy is bizarre as hell. A weird riff from Barber that sounds rehearsed with a LFO'd patch from Magner. The jam in Rock Candy is very disco-ish, which is often not a great thing. It's not here. It's pretty boring for the first few minutes. After a few minutes of that, they get back into the dark jamming and Brownstein sits on a sweet phrygian bassline. The peak here is phenomenal!
Story - This Story starts out like several other Stories do. The jam here is pretty short (~5-6 minutes or so). For a good portion of that, it's rather stagnant and doesn't really go anywhere. The jam actually gets really good before the peak but there's not nearly enough good part to re-listen to this.
Afro Blue - Standard. I like this song and I think it's used well here.
Astronaut > Shimmy > Astronaut - At one point everybody drops out but Magner and Barber and the jam is just sick for a few minutes. What they're doing right around the 15 minute mark is awesome. For quite a while during this long jam, they toe the line between patience and boring, but I think they err on the side of patience more often than not here and it pays off several times. Very patient builds from Sammy. The peak into Shimmy is absolutely PUNISHING, especially from Sammy and Barber. Really punch-you-in-the-face style playing. The jam out of Shimmy is pretty boring and sounds a little too Phishy for my tastes. It turns out decently on the way back into Astronaut.
Confrontation - Really awesome jam from the get-go here. Very hypnotic trance. 10:40 is fire. Fireplane. Unfortunately, Brownstein starts playing the Confrontation peak right afterwards, though he shortly thereafter drops it. This jam has several parts and all are awesome. I would say this is one of the best Confrontations of all time.
Great jams here, but a little too much filler for this to warrant even 4 stars. There really is over half the show that's throwaway. Standouts: Floes, Shimmy > RC, Astronaut(1), Confrontation

Good performances of B&C, Story, Astronaut.
Exceptional performances of Afro-Blue and Confrontation.
Sound quality is OK, too much crowd noise. They need to release this on the DiscLogic site if the boards turned out.
