Subject: Meh.
Subject: Meh.
Mitts - Standard.
Buddha > Voices - They really open up Buddha this show and start by jamming it out after the first verse. This jam is very digital (surprising!) and Magner leads with some really hard patches. About 4 minutes before the switch to Voices, they drop into a Voices intro jam that turns out to be AWESOME. There's a very very short jam in Voices, but nothing major.
Mulberry's Dream > Gimme Three Steps - There's a long type I jam in Mulberry's Dream with a long Magner solo. The second jam turns into a trance jam that sounds like it's going to the end of Morph, but it's not. I actually rather enjoy this. There's a little too much Barber wanking going on here for me to get multiple plays out of it, but it's a fun little jam.
Tunnel - Tunnel jam starts out very low-key, and really awesome. Pretty good jam overall, but it doesn't really go anywhere at all, which is not at all surprising for a Tunnel jam.
Pygmy > Buddha > House Dog - Pygmy starts out with some really cool (again) hard patches from Magner. This goes some cool places and about 5 minutes before the drop into Buddha they have a breakdown portion. The drop back into the jam from the breakdown is pretty mehtastic. However, the progression that Barber comes up with at this point is pretty cool. The jam itself never really regains much steam and suddenly we're back in Buddha. The drop in and jam out are extremely awkward. The jam out starts out boring as anything they've ever played, but Sammy picks up the drums and things get a little better. There's a really cool portion with no drums at all that I'm in love with. The drums kick in and they play some really dark music for a bit. Awesome. The drop into House Dog is terrible. The 1st jam is very typical, not all that interesting. The 2nd jam is pretty cool from the get-go. There's another breakdown about 5 minutes from the end that's pretty cool. In the end this whole jam is neat but not all that memorable.
Jam > Fiddler > Svenghali > Triumph (><) > Buddha - The jam here is such a generic jamband jam that it's almost a little sickening. Fiddler is standard and there's not a real segue between Fiddler and Svenghali. The jam in Svenghali is a pretty generic DNB jam. About 8 and a half minutes into the Triumph track, they start playing what sounds like an attempt at a new song (or at least maybe the early workings of an early song). This part of the jam isn't really all that interesting, but at least it's very cohesive (especially if it truly was improv).
Therapy - Standard.
Buddha(1,2)
2 stars. The only things really worth re-listening here are the first Buddha jam (into Voices) and the second Buddha jam (into House Dog). Not much else is worth your time and is pretty generic.

THe show was in a little rat hole of a venue, the crowd was lackluster at best, they were playing in NOLA the next two days, and while at this show I though to my self, "Damn, they look tired"
Don't get me wrong there definitely were some highlights, for example, Buddha->Voices, MulBerry's Dream, Svenghali->Triumph->Buddha
I really didn't think anyone was recording on this night too. I am surprised the sound from the first set came out as good as it did. But as the text file says, the distortion in the second set is very annoying.
The lacking in sound quality was definitely not b/c of the taper, the venue was an odd same with a 7 foot high ceiling, what can you expect? Not to mention the hillbillies right under the mics
spend your time on another show
show quality: 7 out of 10
sound quality: 5 out of 10
oh yeah, definitely not segues between Mulberry's and 3steps or Once the Fiddler and Svenghali
and the 3 steps was hilarious and scay at the same time!
