I love the way they get the year started busting out new tunes and the set closing Playing>Wheel>Playing.
Just find this to be the heart
of what was great about the GD.
I remember my first couple of Victim, Foolish on the East Coast summer tour and just thinking. HOW COOL IS THIS!
anyway this is a show of historic importance in my book.
Estimated>(Pick a Garcia tune) and Terrapin gives the band a whole new vehicle of exploration.
The Swing NOT in Vegas
This NOT an oldies band.
More Dead!!!

...and the music plays the band
Yes, the X-Factor is alive and thriving in this show. It's so great to hear first-ever versions played so well out-of-the-gate, Estimated and Terrapin. I wonder why this show has never been released commercially by now. The performance quality certainly qualifies it- -could be due to the lyric misses in Franklin's Tower.
You won't find a more aggressive "Around & Around" anywhere. One of those rockers where you think Bobby's going to blow the roof off the joint, and ruin his vocal chords for good. Many Thanks to Betty for all the great board recordings in the 70's, and for just Being There for all the fans.

Ring like fire
This show is a masterful journey of rhythm and sounds that I really never hear in any other show. The Help->Slip->Franklins is the funkiest, sweetest synchronicity of the whole band I ever heard. This show had been a staple in my car(s) that had cassette players - thank goodness for this site. The first set is one of my fav. all time - the transition from playin to wheel is beautiful (beginning of wheel track)

New Copy
First of all, thank God for Betty!
Anyway, I edited this show, due to the flaws of the board. I used the Betty Cantor SB for as much as I could, and I patched it where there are flaws in the board and between songs for the crowd's energy--patches done with this wonderful Hunter Seamons matrix.
If you want the crowd but less of it between songs and more board during the songs, you may like my copy. Also, if you prefer the jams and medleys not to be pieced up with track changes, you may prefer my copy. Finally, if you can only download ZIP files, you will like mine as long as it doesn't get pulled. Otherwise, I recommend the Hunter Seamons copy over all others.

njpg review! Not so good??
Is it April Fools Day? That statement is 1000% pure sacrilege!! Any first set that begins with the crisp clean sound of a virgin Terrapin, First Estimated into a sweet Sugaree, and closes with the Playin>Wheel>Playin in 1977 is out of this park! Your standards bewilder my senses. Sorry for the rant.....And a straight Betty Board, to boot? If you had a map that showed an "X" where the buried treasure is in a box....both sets of this show would be inside. Second set is insane. But the first--there is no set like this from 65-95. It is a very, very special set. A gift to humanity. Seriously.

Does't come better than this
The sound of this mastering is pristine. It does not get better! If only we had some powerful organ, then it would be a match made in heaven. In all honesty the tech problems, dont even shed a slight shadow on the perfection of this show. Its music, listen to bobbys playing, he is sounded GOOD!!! They all sound good, but his guitar comes through just rright

Looks like my hometown was good for something besides gang banging.
First Terrapin, first Estimated and a Betty Cantor board.
