who can provide an explanation for why Phil tells the crowd at around 9:00 mark after must have been the roses:
"I just want everyone to know that this is the happiest day of my life"
Did something happen on this date in his life, was a kid born, or was he just wound up and feeling that at the moment?

A super sharp show from start to finish. Keith has a harpsichord sound going on very strongly. This is one of my first shows that I had on tape and sort of grew up with it!

Thanks for the good recording! It is an easy, smooth listen with little echo or cave. Solid, tight show too.

Subject: The best show you've never heard
Subject: The best show you've never heard
This show is easily among the best of Fall '77, if not the best, right along side 11/4 and 12/27 (apologies to 11/5). Though it's grown in popularity here at LMA, it's really a shame this show hasn't received the praise of more canonical shows like 5/8, 6/9, or 9/3/77. It most definitely belongs in the conversation.

Charlie Miller does nice transfers but this is STEVE MAIZNER'S version. The taper at the show accomplishes 98% of the sound on the tape (aside from the band of course) It seems like Charlie has been elevated by how much editing work he has generously done for Dead fans to being some kind of magician or something.

The transportation machine is turned on for this one, and it's a treat to enjoy it in full "surround sound, you-were-there" effect in Charlie Miller's great version. It starts with a Might as Well that’s a pull-out-the-stops promise of things to come; it’s basically Might as Well Levitate, and the band just flies higher and higher from there, with the ecstatic audience along for the rocket ride. (This is an AUD where you can be transported into the audience and still hear the band crystal-clear.) Many high points (Jack Straw, LiG, Estimated, etc), but what an extraordinary StSt > NFA > Black Peter … Jerry is on an inspired high-intensity slow burn that could drill through metal. This is also a show where Donna is pure organic honey. Might as well take a seat in the audience (though I doubt you'll do much sitting ...)
