That transition into The Other One!!!
Worth price of admission alone. Estimated>Other One always had potential. Powerful! I've seen it done with other bands to good effect. Nice Fall 77 jam here.

Cobo Hall was famous as a heartland metal/hard rock venue. The Dead only played it twice, after this casting about for various south MI venues before committing to Pine Knob in the '80s, and The Palace in the '90s. Maybe not the best show of the tour, but the focus is on the top of the second set – a must-hear sequence.
First Set. Might as Well works nice as an opener, though they are still warming up. Jack Straw kicks it open and has a nice feel. The next few are average '77 [that's always good!]. The beginning of Friend of the Devil is missing about 1½min. Jer emphatically adds his conversation to Looks Like Rain, but the drummers have been out of synch this whole set. After a perfunctory Dire Wolf, Mickey[?] says "play Yellow Bird" (re a version of Choucoune by Arthur Lyman), Jer takes a stab, Billy[?] says "that's pretty". Passenger and Peggy-O are yr average. After an attempt at a Funiculì, Funiculà tuning, Music Never Stopped is one of the strongest of the set, perfect for the break.
Second Set. Terrapin to open? Without warning, this is something extra; punchy, with extra little bits from each player. They know it, because that lift-off then buoys Estimated (feels so much like it was gonna be a Playin'). The mutron jam section is as good as other top '77s. The tether threatens to snap on the awesome tranny into The Other One, which then bumps against the universe. After Drums, Wharf Rat has two nice jams but sluggish verses. Truckin' has a reel flip @2:16, missing ~25secs. The end of the short set drops off with a flat Around and a shoes-in-dryer U.S. Blues.
1st Set: C+
2nd Set: B-
Overall = 3¼ stars
Highlights:
Terrapin Station>Estimated Prophet>The Other One - big lift-off sequence
SOURCES: The miller_82574 is great (adjust for balance, EQ and low volume).

I've been making my way through each show from '77 and just got through this one. I'm surprised it isn't considered one of the top shows of the year. It's a real underrated gem. Sound quality is excellent too. Check it out if you haven't yet.

anyone notice the bass line in Jack Straw?
Does anyone else notice the bass line towards the latter half of Jack Straw? Either coming from phil or the keyboards but it's really unique.
great recording and really picks up the feel of that period.

Terrapin jam shines here.
I was never a big Terrapin fan until I heard this one. Such a complex and deeply entrancing song.
The whole set 2 jam from Terrapin>Estimated>Other One>Drums>Wharf Rat is just gorgeous.
I'll take any recommendations for other late 70s shows like this.
Excellent sound quality.
And those that complain about stream-only shows need to get over their desire to own things. Just my opinion.

A Hugely Underrated Show
This one is an outstanding show and recording. The boys have it together and they seriously rock the Motor City. A definite add!

I'm with Evan ........
"No labels" and "no track numbers" are not valid reasons for giving this show just one star, the lowest rating.
It's the music that counts and this is a five star show. OK, there are a couple of flaws
e.g. start of "FOTD" cut and reel-lip in "Truckin'" but giving this one star is just plain ridiculous. I wish I could give it ten stars to cancel that out.
Also "stream only", if you believe that you'll believe anything ("you just have to dig around") and there's always Lossless Legs.
