Chant>Radio 4
The fourth Radio City show and 21st 3SF80 overall. Though not in the top half of the shows, and having maybe the worst single set, the series is so consistently good that it's really just a first world problem.
First Set. One of three acoustic Ikos, but the only launch pad Iko. The whole set shines as a result, particularly by the time they get to Jack-a-Roe. They had great luck with Cassidy acoustically, and this is one of the best of the eleven played. The '80 arrangement is not my favorite Ripple but this one is tops. Bobby accidentally bids goodnight.
Second Set. Almost as good as the acoustic set and also starting strong, with Jack Straw. Sugaree is a bonus on Dead Set - but the intro, up to the first verse, is patched with 10/13. The last two are astonishing. Let it Grow is a real whipper and the energy carries over into a rave-up Dough Knees.
Third Set. Though most of the set is average '80, it's a bit of a throwaway compared to the surrounding shows. Althea is snoozy (a brief Mickey Mouse Club tuning will perk the trainspotters) and Estimated is a bit flat. The set highlight is a great jam on the backside of He's Gone, saving what threatened to go nowhere. Space is the second highlight, with Phil bombs. The rest is average to below average '80. Tightness is hard to find and by Good Lovin' Bobby gives in and starts screaming.
1st Set: B
2nd Set: B-
3rd Set: C-
Overall = 3 stars
Highlights:
Jack-a-Roe - maybe not 10/10 or 10/23, but great
Cassidy - they had great luck with the acoustic seabird flight
Ripple - maybe the best of this arrangement, else 10/30
Let it Grow - the song this show is known for
Don't Ease Me In - rave up
SOURCES: The rolfe_miller_94269 runs a tad slow but is otherwise the best AUD. The remaster_18896 is the best SBD. It's patched and sounds way better than the hinko_18862. But the best image, balance and fidelity is on the Seamons matrix (101967). It Must Have Been the Roses is on Reckoning. Let it Grow and most of Sugaree are on the Dead Set bonus disc.

Intimate Setting
The atmosphere in conjunction with an acoustic set was so very nice. This show really exemplified that. Jerry was great in 1980 and '81!

This was probably the best concerts of my life
And I've been to many... We'd heard that it would be 50/50 acoustic/electric. American Beauty was/is one of my favorites. Small venue, overall a terrific show... The acoustic part was just right. The Electric part was tight and letter perfect. Turns out it was almost exactly 1/2 the way through the life of the Dead. A definite High Point.

Congrats Hunter - Sounds Stellar
Lovely mix of SBD and AUD, so full and dynamic. I think "Spacious" is the word... listen to cassidy with headphones :)
