This is yet another venue that was long ago demolished because people chose to build and live near the facility. I remember seeing something there in 86(?) and I want to say JGB played there in the late 80s. Was it with Clarence Clemens?

Subject: GREATEST guitar music EVER
Subject: GREATEST guitar music EVER
NO metal band, NO fusion band, NO blues band, NO virtuoso (Ynva Malmstien, Van Halen-all done with tricks- Metalica, Dime Bag), NO Alan Holdsworth, NO Frank Zappa, and NO, not even the greatest ever, Jimi Hendrix could come up with a complex guitar suite like help/Slip Franklins. It starts off confusingly tricky with what seems to be the second chorus leading back into the first, then the bridge, then the verse, THEN the solo. Then it goes into this complicated guitar diminished arppegiated swirling thing that I still can't play right always after 40+ years. Then it breaks into a simple three chord anthem that screams for us to "roll away the dew". Explaining to us in simple, but deep one liners that are mini parables & are also paradigms for what defines the term anthem. Who would expect this from aging hippie Jerry garcia. I think it shines a spot light brightly on his genius: "like four lean hounds the light house keep", "your eyes looked from your mother's face", "In Franklin's Tower there hangs a bell, it can ring turn night to day, ring like fire if you lose your way", "if you plant ice you're gunna harvest wind", then, my favorite: "if you get confused, listen to the music play". These are completely influenced by the writings in the Bible (thank you Robert hunter). They are simple fable like one liners and yet they go deeper than deep. They have great meaning and touch our soul. To me, this is one of the greatest H/S/Fs ever performed. maybe because it was my first, I was under the influence of LSD and it was my 3rd show which secured my place FIRMLY on the bus! In this suite of three songs, the Dead go from their most complex music, to their most simple. From their deepest meaning lyrics to the most simple. Roll away the Dew. and what does that even mean? You could write your college thesis on this piece of music and end up with mose unanswered questions than solutions. It is pure genius! Written in 1975 it could be argued that it is among the Dead's very best writing ever.
Back to earth: The way this song was performed that night showed me without doubt that the Grateful Dead were among the greatest. Yes, they had off nights and they had great nights. This being one of the latter. I made it my business to try not to miss as many more as I could. We all knew that it could end at any time. sadly, the same fools that proclaimed their hate for the band would soon start showing up with kegs of beer almost to say, I can throw a party bigger and better than you can. They discovered our private little beach and ruined it with beer cans, garbage, rotten food and all the crap that could be left behind. Starting shortly after this show in 1983, the Dead would be banned to football stadiums. They should have went stealth. They should have went back to playing tiny theaters and announcing the day of the show. That would have been the only way. But they had a massive staff and crew to support. Maybe they could have done a tour and a couple of tiny shows in between eaCH football stadium. That is a great dream to have. This show here was not a dream. it actually happened. I can thank someone for that. peace

I'm not sure what I think about Iko as an encore. Of the 183 Iko's, only 5 were encores - 7 if you count New Years Eve's where the encore was more like a short set. Only a couple of times was it the walk-off moment.
