3 stars is a stretch.
Jerry was totally stoneded out. I was there and remember him shaking his head during break and trying to get it together whilst sitting on a chair backstage,

Finally a soundboard again!
Been a few shows since a soundboard showed up. Last one was 5-13 Greek Theater. All audience recordings up till now. Good to have the crisp sound back.

Excellent both in performance and sound quality. I don't usually comment on individual songs because it's so subjective. Having said that you just have to check out Fire on the Mountain it's incredible.

Gotta go with the SBD
What a great show and a great weekend. The city of Ventura STILL wasn't ready for us even after showing them what we were about the previous year.
Sheets of Doves were prolific and they were really good & clean. We put 25 in a clear canteen and that kept us and everybody around us nice and happy the whole show.
I generally prefer AUDs or MTXs but the wind is so loud in AUD recordings you've got to go with the SBD. And this is a really crispy one too.
Jerry starts out a little low in the mix but by the time Jack Straw is over the sound is "just exactly perfect". Vocals and instruments are super-clear!
Oh, and that Fire on the Mountian the previous reviewer was talking about was in 1985 when they opened with OMSN -> Fire. No fire in the hills in 1983.

this was always a great venue -- what a dust bowl. And right on the beach. They always played well here, lots of spirit. This 1983 show will get you riled up.

I had this sbd back in the 80's and it was one of my favorite versions of Fire On A Mountain. The aud doesn't do it justice because of all the wind.
Some shows ,that at the time seemed to weak make good sbd's ,and some good shows ,the sbd's show all the flaws. When they played 2-14-68 they thought it sucked ,but later they realized it was great.

Great Show
This is a great show and a great recording. The jams are good, great turns, and the recording so crystalline you can hear all the little tweaks during songs like LLR.
