The third show of the run is known for the Shakedown opener and the second set Fire. The first set has no stinkers, just average GOGD. The second set AUD portion runs Mickey Mouse fast and then the SBD runs molasses slow. It's also circulated this way in the past, obscuring the show. Still, it's the lesser show of the run (if not the tour), but with a couple nice, interesting areas. Next up, Santa Fe!
First Set. The Shakedown opener gets better and better, with a very nice jam section. The next two are strong, but after Big River the manic energy of the previous night dissipates. Brown Eyed Women and Deal are brisk, and the latter goes into more rooms than the size of the hallway suggests.
Second Set. Scarlet is a bit shaky for the verses but Jer warms up throughout and by Fire on the Mountain he blows the 2nd and 3rd jams into orbit. The music folds in on itself, collapses, rebirths [re-balance, EQ and repitch for brilliance]. Estimated is a bit clumsy and the tempo sticks in the mud for Terrapin ("wings will flow"). After an 8min Drums comes a big, 17½ min Space. Jer plays Spanish riffs>Bobby starts TOO riffs after 5min>Jer picks it up for a bit>Bobby drops it>vice versa>Bobby plays Heaven Help riff. A thematic struggle for them, a benefit to us. A long, unique jam, with the drummers staying, that eventually resolves to Stones after the full band joins in. On Throwing Stones ("celestial balls"), the Jer solo section is instead an intriguing group breakdown jam (too bad the SBD has Jer low in the mix). The ending is also playful. This Space>Stones is a must-hear-once. The rest is average '83. Around is brief before the jump to Good Lovin'. The encore has an ill-pitched patch at the beginning.
1st Set: C+
2nd Set: C+
Overall = 3 stars
Highlights:
Shakedown Street - great jam
Fire on the Mountain - one of year's best
SOURCES: The sbd_84856 is a composite of the best AUD and SBD parts. But the 2nd set has some wild pitch issues and a 19sec gap in Space, so you might want the Holbrook AUD for that set. Otherwise, it runs very fast for the start (AUD) of the second set, needing -3.25% pitch correction for Scar>Fire. It then becomes very slow, needing +2.5% for Estimated through Good Lovin. The encore needs -1% correction for the AUD patch.
