18th Birthday & hometown show
Yeah it was my 1st tour and it was pretty sweet to come home, Pine Knob is like 15 minutes from the house I grew up in. So in the middle of my 1st tour I get to come home, get a bday meal from Mom, a little bday $ from pops, invite a bunch of new tour buds to my folks house to crash, c all my HS buds and proudly show them what my scene was all about. All in all it was s decent show. Iko was kinda rare at that time, & the end of set two was rollicking. Being my 18th bday & a hometown gig it would've been hard for the boys to disappoint. Saying that the night before in Indy & the night after in KC were both, I feel better shows-6/30/84 is a top 10 show for me outta 400+ Grateful Dead shows. I also fell in love with The Starlight Theatre that tour. 1984 Kc highlights was the heat lightning show coloring The Wheel & the 1st Scarlet>Touch>Fire combo; they played that combo again at the Greek Theatre after this tour. STARLIGHT 1985 was awesome too, I'd love to go back to that theatre. Starlight, Frost, Berkeley Greek were favorite venues that come to mind., Alpine Valley also a personal favorite. Saw my 1st shows there in 1982
