Got pretty bored and decided to give this faceless bootleg a face. Posted it online for other people to use.

@jjg4762, that was Calico... Now I'm wondering if I have the spelling right. I used to work with her at GDTS years ago, thick German accent, really cool cat. I remember her rolling her eyes at me cuz it took me a while to learn her special way of wrapping the rubber bands around the 4 sides of the stacks of tix at the end of the day after the final inventory count of the day. (had to be done that specific way). She must've thought I was a bumbling idiot.
I had a worn out cassette of this show for years, always loved how they played with the timing knobs on the delay efx coming out of Space, such a soulful Stella, and the Dark Star encore, I remember listening to that many a long night on I-5 between SF and LA traveling half the speed of smell in my VW bus. Some magical instrumentals throughout. Can't wait to listen to the download, hope it's better than that warbly tape I used to listen to.

Ahhhhh the summer of 84 That was a special summer. Seems every time we turned around we got something new. From the Hult scarlet touch to the end of summer in Ventura (I just want to make love to you) Not ever nite but alot of them. Now back to Dark Star I remember hearing all afternoon how tinght was the night to be inside the Greeke. Standing out side on the side walk we were givin 2 tickets by of all people Callicco Not sure how to spell her name. sorry Anyway she told us you don't want to miss tonight. And in we went. She was rite and so were the rumours of Darks Star.... From my memory we were told it was in the San Francisco pink pages that week'that tonight would be very special. Anyone else remember this?

you talk of the Hampton '89 version as if it was the most unforeseen Dark Star of all time... 'warlocks'? i mean they practically told you they were going to break it out again.
whereas this one came out of nowhere and is much better, even without the MIDI Jerry.
5-star show, 4-stars for yappers near the taper's section (taper's curse).

Darkstar on this night is eclipsed (no pun intended) only by the magic of Hampton 5 years later..but even still, this 'Dark Star" lives with me in imphamy as the tune that really got me into the Dead scene...I could really feel the energy in this song and this is the first time I have ever heard the audience version.
I have the ultra crispy board which is also here on the archive...this show and shows of similar runs in the 80's seem to present a unique and wonderful dead experience beyond what the 70's was able to muster (in tapes only as I saw my first show in 3/26/87-hartford). I love all of the 70's stuff, but these rocking mid 80's shows really are truthful in sound to my truest liking. I love the Cornell Scarlet>fire...but this scarlet>touch>fire rips the scene up big time. Let this be passage to thee who hears this show...listen child!~ Drakstar, at the Greek in the summer of '84- Berkeley style...this is the horsemouth of information, dudes...having just seen Phil Lesh there and the 'Comes a time' benefit in 2005 I can say that this venue is special.
You need not look beyond this Darkstar to understand the mysticism or relive the joy of what the dead are all about- I suppose, to me, it is just the memories of wonderful days gone by that live in this website and in other digital ways. The energy was high. The days were inspired and wonderful, with Jerry around.
But even still, I find that being able to harken back to these special moments and embodiments of the dead scene, provide the necessary spiritual conduit to the joys of the Dead scene. I say scene, but really, the music, and the effervescent personalities which roamed the knooks and crannys of every day life but emerged, ready, for what the scene could bring to them, upn return to their homes. To me, this Greek show, is the true coming of the dead in my life as I grew up a young kid in the 80's. Eventually, I would see 99 shows and tour accross the country, but this show embodied the desire to do that- this show was my kool-aide to the dead scene- this show was the show that got me hooked on the dead big time! Also, then, the will as well as the integrity of the visiion I had of a journey beyond the norm, to a new land of touring and academia. This performance, as I only know in sound, as I was not there, must be heard by anyone who does not understand what I have wriiten above here- even you Dan Chapman!
This performance is the absolute baptism into the dead of the mid 80's. If you have not heard this show, then you must listen to this version as well as the sbd version. This show, in all its glory, has the power to lift thyself and show the listener- simply by hearing darkstar, why Jerry Garcia is and always will be be, in my eyes, the greatest guitarist and ASRTIST ever in the histoy of the world- both pre and post renessainnce. Jerry is the number one best artist and best over all person in the history of not only rock and roll, but of the universe itself. To understand him is to understand the majic of the notes of dardstar as they teather themselves to the ears of the virgin listener who is so lucky to happen upon them...Magical day Magical Band, heart of gold band... fantastic audience quality, okay so I got pretty carried away...just check it out it is totally hot!!! How great thou art...
