Why Don't we do it in the ROAD!
This was one of the best covers they ever pulled off.
I saw this in Philly & entire 1st set was a rocket ride.
(The opener just sent us into orbit.)
It seems to have become fashionable to pile on certain tunes. And for my money anybody smack talking on 85 tunes like WHY DON'T WE DO IT-probably were not at any show(s)(probably still on the tit)
WHY>BERTHA>JACK STRAW- Best opener 85 ?
This is the intensity that i loved about 1985,
West LA- seems this tune has gained some street credit over the years. Nice to see it Second Set for the 50th anniversary shows. This is Garcia at his introverted best. A brilliant song for him to explore.
Also good to activate the rhythm section which gets busy throughout this song.
Rooster-Never put this on my fantasy sets but
usually a slide work showcase.
Peggy-O- Very sweet version
As we rolled out to fennario..
Cassidy-Cali Classic
Wheel to the storm and fly
Phil's Bass just right in the mix.
Deal- Primed for lift off!
Danger of flaming out with the quick start out of the gate, but they maintained good forward motion to that DEAL.
Set Two:
Terrapin out of the gate is pretty cool idea.
(Sometimes when they played this later in 2nd set
it seems they could struggle to nail transitions.)
Good to tackle this right up front in the set.
(They opened 2nd set Providence with TERRAPIN.)
Here i really like the progression: TS> Playin>Fingers
Interesting data from KBMILL (first review)
Note: The P.I.T.B- is very trippy, sounds like they might meltdown. For only 10 minutes they take it way out
>Crazy Fingers! at times a challenge for Garcia.
but such a mellow tune.
Always special when I heard it!
Jerry hums at points here.
Another sweet jam heading out of Fingers.
A straight ahead traditional Trucking
(no connected Smokestack, Spoonful, High Time)
One super hot jam to end Truckin!!!
Is that like a mini Bird Song jam?
into Drumz>
The Wheel-> (Can't go wrong with Wheel out of Space)
T.Stones>Sat Night-> E: It's All Over Now Baby Blue
I enjoyed Throwing Stones back in the day. It was Apocalyptic and great spin material but I don't listen to it very often anymore,(it just seems like the Golden Road of the 1980's)
At least they guide it into Saturday Night with a pretty nice Garcia transition briefly raises encore hopes but alas another well traveled Baby Blue is upon us. (Encores NOT a priority for band on most nights in this era.) Still even the last 2 pretty standard tunes sounded just right! EXCELLENT SHOW*****

The only Terrapin > Playing in the Band > Crazy Fingers ever played. This is also the first time that the three songs appear in the same second set together in any order. The trio has some staying power, but played in the opposite order - CF > PITB > TS
