A favorite show of mine. Drove out from C'ville in the middle of my years at UVa and had a blast with friends I now greatly miss. Wonderful memories from that era always mixed with trips to regional Dead shows. Wish we could return to those days, but this site is invaluable for rekindling those memories and wonderful music.

This is my first review on archive.
Thanx to all for all the diligent work keeping this music flowing.
I just got back on the net after a three year absence. MP3s back then, missed SHN.
I did not go to Atlanta but saw Hollywood thru this show.
The first set quality was a definite upgrade though had to keep my cassette of the 2nd set.
I like the first set, intersting set list but nothing really jaw dropping, just good solid play. I love Let It Grow but this one seems short.
The second set is worth your time.
I remember having a beer in the beer garden (Phil side in the back) and hearing Estimated in the hall.Inquired what they opened the set with and someone said this. Found out after the show that I completely missed Aiko. Nice vocal interplay.
Estimated is energetic leading to an always pleasing Uncle John's and a rare combo. The China Doll is exquisite, I don't care 'bout Jerry's '85 creaky vocals when you can sing with this emotion, this one is heartbreaking. Morning Dew out of space, that's the stuff! Three powerful Garcia tunes in a row, notwithstanding the brief foray into Playing before drums. The "Dew" is best for the fisrt half of the song rather than the build up climax. Phil hits notes that make that Blaaat sound occasionally heard in '85. Sounds like the strings vibrating in a bad way but somehow powerfully overwhelming. If I would have had fillings they'd have been on the floor. The rest of the set is pedestrian, though the Baby Blue feels good.
Decent enough recording, and I like the outfront vocals. Jerry's guitar is prominent (Thank you)
My pedigree: I will only write this once
First show Duke '82 and have unused tickets for after Jerry's death. 150 shows in all. I host a weekly loosely based Grateful Dead radio show on 90.5FM.
KHSU.org Pigpen brought me to the band and avidly collect all his shows. My favorite years are 70,73,77,79, and 85. I saw 18 shows in 85 including Greek thru Pittsburg summer tour and the preceding 3 84-85 NYE shows. This year was quite amazing, some common looking setlists with some headturners
I will love this music always. Peace
