De mortuis nil nisi bonum
And so regard to that Latin motto, I won't anyway. This was the first time I had been able to check out the BCT shows closely; headphones. I noticed the 2% speed increase as commented elsewhere, it wasn't that hard to adjust, but like the rest of the show, I doubt it'll be revisited any time soon. Despite being knocked out by Jerry's solid playing and singing, what at first seemed to be a misstart by Brent became an inescapable meltdown. Although, it was right from the first tune, so he was probably already pretty well melted at that point
This has also been mentioned regarding other nights, but here he pretty well fucked up almost every tune for me, it was made more jarring due to the excellent mix and recording, you can too easily hear all of his attempts at playing, if he was even trying. At least one of the best "Johanna's" was almost spared.
Maybe his raw outburst on "Rooster" was fun for some, but to me it was almost scary and weird. Like making a mistake on open mike night somewhere by inviting up that guy who usually plays pretty well but may have had one Kamikaze too many. Or actually, like a few pitchers too many. Not for me to judge, but his playing (or lack of it) pretty well speaks for itself. I felt really, really bad for him as I am somewhat familiar with his life at that point. I have always loved his playing, both in seeing him with the band from his start and on the many shows I have found here, he brought so much new talent and energy to the band. So sad.
I would have loved to have seen the looks on the band and crew. Or know if this was ever discussed at any time, which seems unlikely. Almost made me miss Keith, which I never thought would be possible, at least his aimless banging away was sort of predictable and ignorable.
This particular show is exceptionally difficult to hear, let alone enjoy. I don't mind hearing the many other trips to the ditch the band made from time to time, but this was the full-on, start to finish trainwreck. No stars because I simply can't judge this. But make no mistake, it should be required listening anyway.

I came for Visions of Johanna
The first set is truly superior to the second here. Great Visions, one of my favourite Dylan covers by the Dead and the Bird Song is very unique (love the chirping). Although the second set looks good on paper (or screen), I felt it sputtered a bit. The jam out of Terrapin was pretty cool though.

"The fiddler now steps to the road..."
The Johanna here is righteous. It's my all time favorite Dylan song. Clear vocals. The Dead do Dyaln so good sometimes.
