Some negative reviews on sound. You gotta think about the year as the sound changes as you go through them. Jerry was coming back this year from an 86 comma and the Spring of 87 was pretty average stuff as he got back into the groove with the band. The summer was a lot stadium shows with Dylan. This is a great sounding version of a summer of 87. Solid set list with with songs from that era like Tons of Steel and Push Comes to Shove. Listen to the High Time and the interplay between Brent & Jerry, its beautiful. Solid 2nd set. Give it a whirl!!! Forever Grateful >Forever Dead.

....but good thing Jerry is down in the mix at the start of the second set, he sounds pretty out of it!

not loving the sound on this one...
...this day in history...
not much to choose from today so it was an easy pick. but the sound on this version is not very warm to the ears. I guess i expect too much (15-20 years ago I wouldn't have even have noticed probably) but the tags make me think this is going to be crystal clear. kinda muddy. not that i am not appreciative of the work that was put into it, just being honest. band has some good energy though.

Excellent show instrumentally, though Garcia's vocals are quite rough. Always seems like that kind of trade-off, doesn't it? Haven't listened to the whole show, but I think the Cold Rain/Rooster, Crazy/Samson & Playin'/China Doll were enough of an indicator to make this a keeper.

1987 was the year i went to my first show and i wish i had gone out west that summer and caught some of the summer tour. it was between my freshman and sophmore year in college and an opportunity i missed. several friends had gone and came back to college with a grateful attitude and spirit. on this recording i went right to playin>china to test the waters and the recording is nice. the playin is not early 70s but nice and of course the china is sweet with jerry singing his heart out with bobby and brent backing him up nicely. now ive stumbled into d&s. wow i am sure the crowd went for a ride that night. there is a steel drum in there and then there is some heavy hitting with unusual sounds toward the end of drums. the crowd noise is nice in this mix and it seems you can tell when someone comes on stage during the drum>space by the cheering. great sound...thanks for all the work in the recording and mixing. seems like a short show compared to some of the 73s ive been listening to lately but i am not complaining a bit...looking forward to when i paint. love the dylan songs by the dead. i'll give it 4.915 stars; it is so hard to rate these shows
