1st west coast show and it was The Mardi Gras show
All time greatest Grateful Dead show experience due to a couple cosmic miracles that were at play...1st was having just broken my femur in a bad car accident about 50 days before and was on crutches which totally blows at a show because my friends were not about to just stay planted in one spot and you know how much you actually wander all around pre show...so anyway i was granted early enterance into to the stadium being general admission (everyone upon entrance show just starts stampeding to get the best seats 1st come basis and they didnt want any handicapped people getting trampled..so there were maybe 30 or 40 people with some ailment and I was able to casually grab a front row seat on the wall of stage directly in front of Jerry and Brent...omg just mind blown experience which that alone was just the greatest experience ever but another suprise was still to happen...and so after 3 or 4 songs a couple vip members came and stood to the right of me where there wernt any seats but these guys had suits on so you could tell they were important.. I take a look and next to me was Bill Graham!....they stayed for a song and a half maybe and were gone..Show will forever be ingrained in my memories of sheer wonderment and joy just epic and of course incredible great vibes how only ive found to that level within the bubble of beautiful souls that are at every GD show///and the boys were on fire to top it off...God Bless The Grateful Dead

My spy boy..
Could get lost in this recording
but it is overall upbeat
and reflective of a big easy vibe.
Bird Song in that slot anytime.
Drums galore,
Jer say HEY NOW!
Playin a good call
Eyes fast paced
Nice post drums
tune selection
Bound to cover
Weir feisty
Brent rising
to the occasion
into a stand alone NFA.
Does US blues
fit with Mardi Gras
Has to cause
Not a ballad
in sight.

Very nice, balanced sounding SBD
Moderately hot, smokin' show. Maybe my favorite West LA Fadeaway, one of my favorite tunes.

Erik65 matrix?
regarding this recording assuming it is a 'soundboard matrix' I too am not a fan of this recording. Ideally it should give you a more accurate depiction of the 'live' sound. It also serves to make the vocals less 'up front' and again a more accurate depiction of what is heard live in addition to being less 'up front' the vocals for Garcia and Weir are less 'harsh' and more 'listenable.' To my hearing, taste, etc the 'soundboard matrix' recordings were hit or miss. If you are familiar with the way the different methods the vault tapes were made you know that from 71 - thru 79 they were usually not just simple soundboard outputs they were outputs mixed to tape. In 1980 it switched to simple soundboard outputs which were more uneven. A lot of tapes from 81 thru into 84(less so in 83/84 but still problematic) for instance are Bass light, loud vocals and keyboards. for the sake of accuracy Bear tapes from 69 into early 1970 were also 'mixed to tape.'

why
did this recording (and several other versions) get listed as a soundboard source, when it's so obvious they're not?
Love this site, but there is a lot of inaccuracy in the source descriptions. Why?
