reaching for a gold ring
Little background hiss on this one..but..not bad. 88' was a strange year with not to many shows that stand out. What really hits you which has already been mentioned, is the Crazy fingers sandwiched between the China>Rider..WOW..that alone carries weight. Also a version of Believe it or Not which did not get played often. A fun little 2nd set here..GIVE IT A WHIRL

5 stars from a tough year
Seeing the Boys on the East Coast for the Early summer shows I was impressed. But then in Landover, MD and MSG in the Fall, the shows fell to be average- at best.
This Mid-Summer Show is a cooker. Much has already been made about the Playin - and really that is the essence of the show. It has no peer post '85, imho.
Of course, the China>Crazy>Rider is a gem for uniqueness. (I remember being thrilled since they had not done much other to alter the normal sequence of china>rider-- sans China>Cumberland and 1/2 step>Rider back in '85.).
The reason I wrote 'tough year', is that aside from shows already mentioned, the band seemed to Fall into a "go out and do it" routine. And a low point (which I know had good intentions) was the 9/24/88 MSG show.
If you want a great one from '88 this is top 3.
God Bless and Enjoy.

a rare and different set
This is the only China>Crazy Fingers>Know You Rider they ever played. I thought I had that sequence from a different venue, but deadbase says no. Combined with Believe it or not [not exactly a stellar piece, but not very common either] in the Jerry slot this gets high marks just for uniqueness.

Just lovely.
Thanks for the upload. They pull of the China>Crazy>Rider without too much slop or hesitation. Once that effort is past, they let loose w/ an intensely drippy and trippy Playin'.......
