Forgot Bait
Me n Taco n Bait at this one. Night before Neil Young on stage jammin out Dylan's Gotta Serve Somebody. This was a stellar show but wheres the Good Lovin encore? After wards driving to Taco's aunt's condo to floor crash Taco goes "We forgot Bait!" But she was just sleeping under a blanket in the back seat. Bait was this cool little mama who I later found out was strippin but got her act together and now is makin bank in corporate for a national smoothie chain.

oops
That was supposed to be posted for the previous night's show.
But this one too was tight, well played as was most of 89.
The old arena never sounded this good. Sound quality these nights was absolutely awesome.

the epitome of 1989
In my opinion, this show is a perfect example of the Spring of 1989. I caught 7 or 8 on that tour, including these to Milwaukee shows. The music on this weekend (Fri-Sat) duo was probably the tightest, rippin'-est, HOTtest that I have ever heard the Grateful dead play live. Bobby friggin' BELTS out his lyrics and has the crunchy and delicious guitar fills, BRENT is at his ABSOLUTE best, LIFTING the entire band whenever there comes a hint of a drag down, Jerry is Jerry, meaning he's ALL THERE! No nodding, no flaccid noodling, just plain brilliance. Phil BOMBED the Mecca, something that flat out never comes out in recordings the way it did live, and the drummers maintain a solid beat while being creative and adventurous at the same time. There are no duds on this or the previous night, and I've often touted these two shows and feel that they don't get the respect they deserve. Would make a perfect pick for Dick!
Four stars because rarely can a show be a fiver or it discredits the whole rating scale. I will say that this would be a five star show if we weren't spoiled with all the amazing music this band created and the archive is now GIVING to us for ZERO dollars. Incredible. Listen to this FANTASTIC show!

Overlooked Gem
This show is a diamond! Superb audio quality! I picked this version, but like others have noted on the more popular older version, there are many greats.
The Scarlet>Fire is dead solid. Possible bests: Bird Song, & Box? Even Mama & Mexicali...how can I single these out from the hundreds? The harmonizing between Bob & Jerry along with the clear audio sound make these a favorite. You need this in your collection.
PNC is right about the Saint. It is flubbed & the weak spot.

Good Sound...
...but not as exciting a show as i remember. anyway, whatever--the mecca was great and i had an amazing time at the show. some real high points in the first set (Birdsong is good) and the scarlet fire is pretty good. stella is also pretty good. the saint is weak.
sound is much better here than the other source, if i remember right. 4 for the sound.
cheers.
