This was the first show I ever made it to, though I only made it to the lot. It was enough. I knew within 5 minutes that it was the life for me. Wish I had been inside, or born a lot earlier. This was the beginning of the end. The Dead changed my life anyway, and they helped me get out of Indiana. Thank you!!!

the close encounters in space blows away the one two nights later at alpine, imho.
My best friend only lived a mile from Deer Creek,, we delivered a TV to his friend who lived write behind the venue that day and all these heads were parking at that guys farm.. someone offered us tickets. We were in to heavy metal / 80's music and turned it down. I will always regret that, as I didn't get on the bus until 1993.
This was also the first bootleg I ever had, btw.

I almost got in to this show,I knew this couple from toronto and they was fighting,so Darcy she gives me her ticket saying she doesn't want to go in without him....But I took my time going in and she caught me at the door and wanted her ticket back (they were in love again)so I gave it back. One thing I'll never forget was this guy in handcuffs standing pressed against a golf cart by two cops, well a bunch of people saw this, and this chant started "let him go,let him go..."and the crowd grew bigger and bigger and now the cops are looking scared, and the crowd we sort of had the cops on the defensive, you could definitely see fear in those cops eyes, and next thing you know the guy is off and running and the cops have to stand there and watch him go, off to some school bus to get his cuffs cut off. Smoked some hash with him at alpine, he had to laugh, they had him for a ten pack of "gooney birds" could you imagine,he'd still be in that shithole county, fuckin american drug laws make me sick. This was the last year I did the whole summer tour, same for alot of other folks too.

it should be noted that this was the first show in indiana in a long time. with the opening of deer creek music ctr. in 1989, this was the first show for a lot of local deadheads. in this way 7-15 is a sort of a local holiday. also, the county of hamilton is very conservative and for the fellas to open with 'bertha' was damn near scary. they had a brand new jail this year too. i write this on 7-15-09. wow!
