Su90 Tour N5 (Shakedown)
Shakedown opener! Last played eight shows prior on June 17, this would be Brent's final contribution to the song. The rest of the gang - with Vince newly aboard - would play it next nine shows later on September 10th in Philly, opening a three-night run. No question, this one cooks and Brent is all over it.
While I generally agree with Dylan M. - these June and July '90 shows are really strong - I don't think they're as good as the prior spring- neither, for that matter, better than the prior fall or summer of '89. At any rate, why nitpick? Yes, summer '89 to summer '90 represents the best of "mature Dead." I don't think they ever hit this high point, again, for a sustained period save perhaps - imo - for spring '93, where the band sounds revitalized, fresh and very much alive. High hopes, at any rate, that seems to have come crashing down already by fall of the same year.

Saw a nice little clip on this tour.I was enjoying the summer ride. The Shakedown and Far From Me were some highlights for me in this solid 1st set.A strong 2nd set to follow with double encore.I was loving Brent this particular nite.Non-stop dancing through this one!!The sound quality is excellent via Mr.Miller.Give it a whirl..Take a step back

Strong show, excellent recording
June and July 1990 were just as strong as the previous spring tour and honestly could be some of the best mature Dead. Beyond their supposed 89' peak, they were really experimenting with midi, lengthening their jams compared to years before, and generally giving it all. Brent's death half a month later would begin the decent of the band.
The show itself may not be as great as the night before, but it still possesses quality playing and thoughtful interaction. Vocally not as perfect as the night before, but still strong.
The show basically sparks where it should, and Charlies SBD>DAT transfer brings out the FULL potential of the recording. You're hearing it better now than they did live....
Thanks!
