Subject: Post-Brent Premiere
This was my first post-Brent show, and hearing it now it sounds suprisingly good. Lots of Jerry MIDI--Vince had sheet music on the top of his keyboards!
At the time, I was a little disappointed there was no "signature" tune played like HSF, Shakedown, Scar>Fire, China>Rider (many played previous two nights). However, over the years I have gained more appreciation for UJB and, especially, Playin' as vehicles for extended jams. Moreover, Half-Step, Let it Grow (maybe it or "Music" is Bobby's best song) and TLEO are some of my favorite Dead songs. Throw in a Morning Dew and all in all it was a pretty good show.
I remember these shows were packed and the parking lot scene was quite intense to say the least. Wish I had Garden tix, but it was good to get back to D.C. afterwards!!
