I thought I liked this show....
I remember enjoying this show live but I have to agree with Folkhippy. I love Bruce's grand piano sound and playing with the band but the accordion has no place in the mix. It completely detracts from almost every song. There's some very good playing in this show and Vince even has some nice solos and is mixing in well. Then, the accordion kicks in and pretty much buzzkills the otherwise strong efforts,
i.e. Cumberland Blues, Promised Land, China>Accordion>Rider, UJB, etc. It didn't distract me at the time, or maybe I was just preoccupied with the vibe, but it's very difficult to enjoy this a second time around.

Superb
Ahh The memories. this tour, but especially the RFK shows, jerry was still Jerry, the dead were still the dead, and this was the peak of the last surge for the dead. The energy is first rate, Jerry is shredding it, who would've thought after this tour that within 8 months Jerry would become completely unable to play the guitar or sing, I never understood those who lump the 90s together as just one bad run, spring and summer 93 the dead was better than they had been for a couple of years and Jerrys decline would come hard and incredibly fast in the beginning of 94 and following. But 93 Jerry was still Jerry. Go listen to a summer 94 and summer 95 show after this one, and then tell me that you can lump 93 in with 94/95. Preposterous.

I wish Bruce would have let the accordion alone
Great show, but the accordion just ruins it. Seriously, accordion on "I Need a Miracle" and "Sugar Magnolia"? I heard it on almost every tune. That sound blends about as well as it would if the Dead added a bagpiper to their band. Sorry for the rant. I love Hornsby's grand piano in '91 - '92, but he could really add a lot of cheese to the band if they weren't careful. Worst concert I have ever seen: Hornsby opening for Ratdog in '05.
I love summer '93. Jerry's tone is so crisp and he is in good form. Vince is finally sticking with piano-sounding keys. Great "Saint" and "UJB." Another fine CM SBD.

a sure 5 for 93'
When asking an old deadhead friend of mine, Penny, whether or not the band deteriorated in later years, she responded:
"Perhaps, but I never noticed. Those wonderful moments of joy that the band brought were always still there. Maybe a bit fewer and farther between, but still certainly there."
This is one of those examples that not all post 91' shows suck.
Excellent transfer by CM! Great sound and great playing for a supposedly mediocre summer tour.
5 stars for playing (considering its 1993)
5 stars for transfer
keep these comming!
