it goes without saying
It goes without saying this is magnificent.
Southern Comfort opened these shows and NRPS with Jerry played at set between the Dead's acoustic and electric sets, as on 6/4/70.
The cut in Cumberland Blues is probably Bear changing his 7 inch reel.
The shouting near the end of drums, mentioned below, reflects the truly dire times. It was four weeks after Kent State, Vietnam was getting worse every day. Dire dire times. And the Dead working their magic spell, trying to rise and lift us with them.

Bonkers
What a fun show! It appears we have the complete first and second set for what was either an early or late show. The show was not known at all when they released the Grateful Dead taping compendium as it's not listed in it at all. I wonder if they did two shows at night? This would appear to be the late show if they did two separate shows that night just based on the ending of it but I can't verify or back this up so it's just speculation.
The other one demarcates the beginning of the second set. It gets very loose at times and just has a very spontaneous unstructured feel to it towards the end. I like the long chatter sections where nothing's happening and you just get to hear the ambience of the venue and crowd. The anti-war protesting comments going on during the other one feel apocalyptic and very fitting with the song. But it was a relief that eventually it stopped. The first version of sugar mag is so rough it's terrible but also I love it. And it was nice especially to hear the what would become playing in the band eventually before. I always like to hear it's a man's man's world I just love that song and I love pigs performance of it. This one's not one of the better ones but it's still always welcome. Just a fun loose show that is kind of forgettable but for the debut of sugar magnolia...

Cold Jordan
Oh sinner as you tread on life's journey, take Jesus as your daily guide
Though you may feel pure and saintly, without Him walking by your side
But when you come to make the crossing at the ending of his pilgrim's way
If you ever will need your saviour, you will surely need him on that day
Now look at that cold Jordan, look at its deep water
Look at that wide river, oh hear the mighty billows roll
You better take Jesus with you, he's a true companion
Oh I'm sure without him that you never will make it home
That awful day of judgement is coming in the by and by
We'll see our Lord descending in glory from on high
Oh, let us keep in touch with Jesus and in the special love of God
And may we ever be called ready when he calls us over Jordan's tide
Now what you gonna do, oh what you gonna say
Oh how you gonna feel when you come to the end of the way?

SWEET CHARIOT- is kind as well.

Cumberland is cut!
I've never heard a live Cumberland that sounds so much like the Workingman's version. But it's missing a good few seconds or more at 2:46. Have to deduct a star.
Why can't we hear it the way they played it? Tracks 11 through 17 should be ONE TRACK! Minus another star.
Come on guys! A 50 second 'tease' gets it's own track?!?! And every drum solo?!?!?
Side one of Anthem of The Sun lists 7 different tracks, but that doesn’t matter because there is no interruption between tracks. Can you imagine what it would be like if there were an interruption between St. Stephen and The Eleven on side two of Live/Dead?
Seriously, shouldn't this site offer a listening experience at least equal to my 44-year-old vinyl? Until the day that this site offers seamless advancement from one track to the next, cutting up The Other One into four (or more) tracks borders on the criminal.
Hey...the last 12 seconds of "Cryptical Envelopment/>Jam" sounds like PITB. Cut it up more! Make another track!

YIPPIE
During the drums, not mic-ed, but either onstage or on the rail, someone gives a brief speech, stating "...members of the Youth International Party...brothers dying overseas...etc" Another person, could it be a band member or even JG gives a half-hearted right on just before they start The Other One. You can hear shreds of speech in the first minutes of the TOO then I guess the person was cleared out or retreated.
GREAT sound, GREAT period.
Peace, Bob
P.S. First Sugar Magnolia!

Great Show and Interesting War Protest Speech
Great show with excellent sound clarity!
In the middle of Drums, you can hear a female anti Vietnam protester voice tell the crowd that "We should get up off our F@$%ing A$$es and help the troops get out of there". Wow, a piece of the times saved in that song, pretty powerful.
