sounds like a "bar band"?
That's what someone said. Not only a "bar band" but a "terrible bar band"!
Hmmm.
I'm thinking most "terrible bar bands" are kicked off the stage long before the Morning Dew ends, and never approach anything as remotely brain destroying as the first three verses and the first guitar solo. And let's face it: the ending is as good as it ever gets, really ... which is to say it's very nice indeed. You could say pretty much the same thing for all the heavy songs in this show. Meanwhile, the version of Ship of Fools is solid gold, probably the reference version for all time.
I'm waiting for someone to come up with a mix where you can hear Weir's guitar ... are the tapes non-existent?

Slo Dew
Not bad in any way. People get used to hearing these tunes the way they want them. I appreciate the effort to keep the tempo way back on Morning Dew. These guys were about to put this song away for a couple years and had tried everything with it by then.

not too great but still....
I agree that this isn't the greatest show but I don't realize why some of these reviews are SO harsh. I'm kind of with our french deadhead friend, ROBLOCHON: let's take it easy, especially with the comments about France. I don't know why a show's being in France is good reason to expect or to explain a bad show. It seems completely irrelevant, nor is there any evidence. France is a sweet place and the Boys tore shit up in the Hexagon in '72, for sure. That's my opinion, for whatever it's worth (and it might not be much).
But, I am wondering if anyone knows of any really good stuff that went down in France. Further, I am wondering if there is any Family stuff going down. I've got a girl in Grenoble who just got turned on to the Dead and I want to help her out a bit. Let me know what you all think.

Pathetic Dew
This is one hacked up awful version of Morning Dew.They are completely off from the very start and mangle their way through the entire song,to the point of almost an unprofessional level of musicianship.I'm assuming they can't hear each other properly, because something is seriously wrong.I guess you just have to crank Phil way up in the mix and have him drop some bombs and it's the best Dew ever.I love the Dead's music but sometimes(far too often)they sound like a terrible bar band and this Dew is a shining example.

The GRATEFUL DEAD "Live On Stage" September 21, 1974 at the Palais, Des Sports, Paris, France
..
...
Garcia and Billy don't sound like they are listening to each other.
Garcia goes from slow, to slower to slowest. Billy goes from busy, to busier, to busiest. Garcia is pulling the beat back, Billy is pushing the beat ahead...hmmm.
Well, it's THE END of 1974...and my interest with the GRATEFUL DEAD.
This shows sounds more like a band rehearsal than a show. It's not the worst show on the IA, but it's close.
Garcia isn't playing all that much, he's leaving huge wholes, (spaces) in his part. Phil, Keith, and Bob try to keep it alive. Garcia steps up to take his leads but that's about it, and even then, they are not as strong as we expect.
Billy is overplaying his drums, the whole thing sounds like a freakin rehearsal...they seem to forgot how UJB goes...it's 4/4...
It's Paris, France no wonder it sucks....
Historical relevance only...
Did Jerry do some smack?
It's not your typical 1974 GRATEFUL DEAD show, but then again they are in Paris, France.
No need to download this show. You won't be listening to it more than once.
Eat, Drink, Be Merry and Listen to the GRATEFUL DEAD. (just not this show)
Thanks for the Love.

Donna Jean Released
Great show up until the band decided to release Donna Jean in the middle of Playin. She must have been knawing on Jerome's leg and he got tired of it so let her go. Despite Donna's screaching, the show is highly listenable. I just wish she wouldn't have pissed in the Cheerios of a show that was a gem up until that point. One white star for Donna; four yellow-orange stars for the real members of the band.

Smokin Dew Bombs!!!
I had an old tape from 77 that had this dew as an encore and I knew it did not belong there. I finally found it. Phil is outstanding. This is an unreal version and the bombs are fabulous. I can't say enough about the bass playing in this song. In my opinion the best Phil Dew and possibly the best Dew. When Phil is on look out!

'74, it was a very Dew year
No, Morning Dew does not get old, at least in 1974. It seems that every performance is different and moving.
I like the 1969 era material a lot. But it is so different than 1974, it's not a good match with this material.

great show
This is the second set of 9.21.74 and the phillers which are listed after casey jones are from the Avalon ballroom 1.24.69. The Avalon stuff is the entire first set.
This may look like gobbly gook as the songs clearly do not match the years but download this its very good stuff and the 9.21.74 set two is a very nice set of rare bust outs for that time period...Morning Dew and casey Jones were rare in '74.
Very nice sound on Both shows
