It's a shame people didn't know what they were doing to recordings when they used "noise reduction" back then. But "Goldwave" and "Cooledit 96" brings back memories.

I just saw Dark Star do this setlist last night, and it was as much fun as it looks on paper... This recording is hard to listen to because of the crowd but the show is top notch if there is a sbd anywhere!

We all have the sbd of the 27th, with LOTS of tuning and audience filler but superior sound. This aud recording of the first night is very good, too, although it's a little trebly so just add a little bass. Just look at the setlist and drool: first set Ship of Fools and Estimated. The monster that set II in '77 always was. Agreed that the jam out of Wharf Rat is priceless! A worthy addition to this three night stand.

Plus Side-Good quality recording, Jerry guitar very clear, vocals pretty good. There is some electronic keyboard going on here.
Negatives- Good quality recording of screaming audience. Every song intro is pierced by screaming heads. Forget the first set material. Little to no bass. The vocals are better than some, but not real quality- maybe described best as distant.
The second set from Terrapin> Playing> Wharf Rat is listenable and I saved it. The real gem here is the Space/Jam out of Wharf Rat into the Playing end piece. Running about 6 minutes this would make 5 star filler and sounds like a throw back jam almost to a 1968 Dark Star feel, but with some newer instrumentation. The one real clean portion of the recording where the audience stopped screaming. I'd be curious to hear if this riff has been named or found played elsewhere. That part gets a 5*, the audience gets a 1*, the listenable parts, a 3*. I'll be generous with a 3 to balance the first non-review; it deserves an overall 2. Great theater the Capitol in Passaic, too bad it went under the wrecking ball. I recall it had no balcony, one sweep of seats from stage to back.
From Wikepedia:
Built in 1926, The Capitol Theatre on Monroe Street in Passaic, New Jersey got its start as a vaudeville house. With the death of vaudeville it became a movie theatre, but its real claim to fame came as a legendary Rock music venue owned by promoter, John Scher.
Throughout the 1970s and into the mid 1980s the 3,200 seat theatre was a popular stop on nearly every major rock artist's tour. After it closed, the building fell into disrepair and it was demolished in April, 1991
