These JERSEY girls start looking good!
I really like this shows super laid back feel.
Up late listening with the headphones and just enjoying some down low down home dead tunes.
This a solid 4 stars and I am still in the 1st set.
going to want a bed.
to lay 'my' HEAD...
Good Sailor /Saint closing Set one
Scarlet>Fire, Estimated >Eyes-really how can you go wrong with that and this is well played and fully involved jams.
The Black peter is soulful. Jerry tests his vocal range.
Sugar Magnolia the up song of the entire night,
It really cooks! "She pays my ticket, when i speed."
Any show with Belushi doing Cartwheels is not to shabby. JOHN could sing but that does not seem like his mission here on U.S. Blues.
I decided to go with 5 stars -
Very Smooth!!!

Was at this show
It was a "for deadheads only" ticket sale. This is an OK sound board, but Jerry's guitar is a bit buried in the mix. IMO, The highlight is "Minglewood." No one in seats around us (on floor near the back) had any idea who the guy doing cartwheels on stage during "US Blues" was. Found out later it was Belushi. A worth while listen, despite the minor flaws mentioned below. Thanks for the memories!

blah
Whatever. Some of Jerry's solos on Estimated from this time period are among my favorites, but this one is cheezy and meandering.
Las Vegas 83. Now that's an Estimated.

First Far from Me
The first Far From Me is notable as a historic event, though it's a shaky performance of a weak song. Lite Rock. Bret even forgets to come in at one point.
(The reviewer below who says he was at the show says this was the first Feel Like a Stranger. I guess he didn't look at the set list. The first Stranger was 3/31.)
This is not a strong show, with flubs and sloppiness in a lot of the songs. For instance, Bob forgets words in Promised Land, and off key at times in El Paso; Phil and Brent get lost during Jerry's solo in Tennessee, then Jerry comes in late on vocal.
It's also not as good as some of the other shows from late '79 and '80. The Minglewood from this period is usually fiery, bluesy and gritty. Here, Jerry offers up some nice guitar, but not with the passion of other nights, and the band seems lethargic. Also lethargic is Lost Sailor/Saint, which is so slow that it seems to go on for hours. (Mercifully, the recording fades out.)
Estimated Prophet and Sugar Magnolia are the best performances of the show.

Blues Brother
The late great John Belushi sings on the encore of U.S. Blues. How cool is that?

Decent post-pigpen show
My first birthday. Clear sound, but weak volume.
All in all an upbeat performance.
